2018 Aston Martin Vantage - they ruined it
The new 2018 Aston Martin is a mess.
The headlights appear to have been lifted from a 2008 Miata, the front grill looks like Lexus got a hold of it and made it ugly, the rear was swiped from the F-Type (the best part) and steering wheel is more confused than Bruce Jenner: Am I round or square? The interior is a let down too. Aston...if you are listening...scrap this car and stick to your old formula.

I just can't stand the hollow haunted look on the lower front end! Way too Toyota of them! Why would they throw away the distinct grill that anounces what you are looking at?! And yes, they appear to have stolen the rear end of an F-type too.
I tink the design team has been eating too much oatmeal. But as they say, to each his own.....just wouldn't be on my Christmas list.

OK if you are a fan of the newer style of grills that seem to be a trend then you would like this front end. When I look at the side view it reflects the same short rear similar to the F-Type. In fact the length of the door look longer then from the end of the door to the tail. I do like the door mirrors and also the flush door handles. Now looking at the rear , I like the style. Looks clean and the lighting features fit . I would like to see 4 exhaust tips instead of the 2. Going inside I like the way it is done with the exception of the infotainment screen. This seems to also be the trend but to me it looks like they just add on the screen. I like it more integrated into the dash. The rest of the inside looks good and the room in the back is great. I think the knee pad is a cute touch. Last comes the drive train. They kept the engine in the 4L range but twin turbo's to me is more of a problem especially with the engine moved back . On the 8 speed I don't know what advantage this provides but the low gears might help the turbo's power during the spool up. So my net is it is not to my taste and if I had the money to buy this class of car I would go with the present AM style. Just my 2 cents

This car will come with a manual at some point. I hope it's 7 speed dog leg.
Interesting use of laser cut metal vents like Jag does in the Project 8 XE. Must be a Brit thing?
I bet consumers will warm up to it. At 160K, what would be the competing sports cars? How many are available in manual?

Perhaps Aston Martin are looking to attract younger buyers who like 'edgy' styling and black wheels. Wanting a separate look from the DB11 is understandable.
I personally didn't find the car's styling to be objectionable and it does have more usable boot space than is normally expected in such a car.
I'm not a fan of the Daimler-Benz/AMG engines, yet I can understand the cost savings associated with using a volume-produced engine.

The new Vantage loses some of the handmade appeal that was evident in their earlier models. No more nice metal hinges and magnetic closures.

The replacement generation has an entirely different income and expectation.
This Aston is a mere stop on a long road to downsizing. Look at the number of people now living in flats, its mind-bending whats coming.

I saw a different video review yesterday of this car, and the first thing that stuck out to me was how this Aston was now closer to my XKR than ever before. Those who know where to look will know exactly what I am on about.
p.s. Here is a more tolerable video

Everyone is scrambling to at least seed the younger market. Most baby boomers have already made their final purchase. Worse the latest craze is downsizing.
