I believe it's 5W/20. I plan on using Mobile 1 as I have used in every car I've owned. I hope Jaguar doesn't make a stink about it with regards to the warranty.

here is a extract from the Jaguar training newsletter regarding Castrol. Looks like using anything else could be a warranty problem. Brilliant cash hustle by Jaguar.:
· Stable viscosity for sustainable performance
· Improved engine cleanliness and engine protection
· Better ability to compensate for various driving styles
There are several features your new Jaguar customers should know about:
· The new Castrol oil, SLX Professional 5W-20, is the only oil recommended for the new 5.0L AJ V8 engines
· A service reminder in the Message Center lets the driver know when it's time to change oil
· Service Interval is every 15,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. It's important that your customers visit your Jaguar dealership yearly for annual service
· The first scheduled maintenance service visit is Complimentary
· Maintenance Interval Message automatically appears when it's time for service
· Checking the oil level is simple using the built-in "digital dipstick" on the car's onboard computer. The new engine does not have a traditional dipstick
The Jaguar/Castrol co-engineered 5.0L engine 5W-20 synthetic motor oil is the only lubricant completely tested to be compatible with Jaguar’s new engine components and other fluids and sealants. No substitutions should be made as the warranty coverage requires the use of the proper Jaguar specified lubricant.

Jaguar 'specifies' lubricant that meet WSS M2C925-A and they 'recommend' Castrol brand. You're free to choose whatever brand that meets the spec.
Yes, it's slimy doubletalk.

I used Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil when I did mine... it meets the specification listed in the manual. Finding an oil that met that specific spec was more difficult than I would have thought...

Good question about the warranty issue. I just purchased a 2010 xk coupe, 25000 mi. Certified 6/100000mi I have a 3 hr round trip to nearest jag dealer and they want $300 to change oil. I have a reliable local shop in town that works on my out of warranty 2009 xk convert. Would prefer to just have it changed locally with proper oil of course but dont want to get in a stink with Jaguar dealer if future problems arise under warranty. Any problems with changing oil locally? thanks

My local Jag dealership charges $150. It does take a lot of oil. Considering I'm planning on taking out a 5 or 6 year extended warranty (Easy Care/Total Care) I don't want any more loop holes available to Jaguar for any future issues. I don't drive much, and one oil change a year will not break me. I'll let them make some money on the oil changes. Is the Castrol oil used by Jaguar definitely a fully synthetic oil?

If your using Alpine Jaguar located in Ft. Lauderdale, I can see why they charge so much. Alpine is a prestigous Jaguar dealer. When I was in their dealership last month on a visit to Pompono Beach the dealership is very upscale. It was like entering a top notch Wall Street brokerage, taking the elevator to the second floor, being greeted by some hot babes then walking through their glass window second story showrooms. Top of the line for being a classy dealership, so I could see why they charge so much. However you could be dealing with West Palm Beach Jaguar also. At Alpine, I think their customers are paying for the geographical area that the dealership was in. Their is a ton of wealth in that specific area.
I was most impressed with the Ferrari/Maserati dealership located on Federal Hwy in Ft. Lauderdale. Wow, what a showroom of beautiful bright red Ferrari's.
However, I am with you, I will let the Jaguar dealership do it for the $120

Does anyone knows where the oil filter is located for the 5.0 XKR and what it takes to change it? I will want to change oil and filter when I receive my car and prefer to do the changes myself.
I changed oil in all my cars, including the two previous 4.2 XKs. Looks from a parts diagram that the 5.0 engine uses a cartridge type filter but, can not find a drawing with its location.

Take off the plastic engine cover and you'll see the casing immediately - it's just in front and to the right of the supercharger. Leave it for at least 2 minutes if the car has been running, to allow the oil to drain out of it. The casing unscrews (4 turns), bringing the filter element with it, then the filter element can be pulled out and the new one pushed in. Replace the large O-ring on the casing. Make sure you oil the 2 O-rings on the filter element before you screw it in to finger tightness. It should be torqued to 25 Nm.
