Default 6 cut key?

Hey Guys,
I just noticed one of my Key Fobs is missing the "key". Reading through the post "everything you wanted to know about key Fobs" write up, I see a reference to 6 and 8 cu keys. It appears the "6" is for our FOB only style.
So, it tough to get another "key"?

NP,
I ordered several, and have a spare, as our cars have been known to lock you out even with the key fob inside the cabin (mine has done it twice). I keep one e-key hidden now....

Thanks forum members and Vince for the information.

I just ordered 2 extra Jaguar blank keys for the FOB as spares....

Here's the link on eBay....under $9.00 each w/ free shipping. Great deal and peace of mind if key/fob is ever lost.

Rich, I just checked your eBay link. It is still active, but now the cost is a whopping $99.09 per Each. Seems ridiculous for a tiny sliver of brass. I made a generic blade out of 1/8th inch aluminum stock cut to that shape so I could hook the FOB to my keys, but now I need a real one to have cut so I can unlock the doors. A quick Google search found me this site; 2010 Jaguar Xk Key Emergency Balde (sic) for $16.50 / Free Shipping. Course, may be others out there somewhere. I think the guy on your original eBay link is now trying to gouge people. Uncool.

I bought one online from e-bay and then went to a locksmith to have it cut. They said it requires a laser to cut it and didn't know of anyone who could do it. I went to Novi Jaguar and they had to send it to another Dealer because there is only one in the state that could do it. They charged me $35 for the cut and the manager said it was $125 if I didn't have the blank. The key came back and didn't work so they redid it with one of their blanks and its my spare.
Good luck.

2 for $10.88, delivered: 2 New Replacement Keyless Entry Smart Remote Emergency Key Blade Blank Insert | eBay

I tried to make the picture smaller, but wasn't able to do so. This is the correct emergency key blank 2007-up XK/XKR.

Cheap enough to buy 2, just in case the first one doesn't work after it's cut.

LstFord is right - the key blank needs to be laser cut and your local Home Depot doesn't have the equipment to do it. $35 seems to be the going rate from a locksmith which, at first glance, is pretty high for 10 minutes work. But that laser cutting equipment is expensive, so that charge pays to amortize that cost in addition to the locksmith's time.

Stuart. I found Wholesale 24-7 and ordered those two keys right before I saw your post. That seems like a GREAT deal. Now I just have to wait for them to show and then find a locksmith. One more problem I have is that I don't HAVE any keys to copy. I also don't have the Key Code Card that came with the car. I emailed the local Jaguar dealer and asked if they could get the code for me, but I haven't heard back since yesterday (Friday), so now I wait until I do hear. What a hassle for an 'emergency' key that I probably will never use anyway.

Good luck! Hope you get that code and a locksmith can cut the key. Keep us posted. Thanks.

I got the Jaguar dealer to give me the Key Code, but is a four digit code correct? Seems to me is should be more than four digits. Anyone know for sure? I should get the blanks tomorrow or Saturday, then off to a smithy. It would suck to have a key blank ruined by an incorrect code cut.

Are these blanks made from titanium or something? The place I had cut my key(s) cut one, but wouldn't cut the other because supposedly it almost broke their machine. Anyway, now I have at least ONE working key. Hopefully I'll never need it anyway.
Now on to...... anyone out there know how to keep the keyhole cover on now that I broke the bottom retaining tab?

Mine are aluminum. Probably an alloy of sorts, but aluminum none the less...

Hello,

Is this dealer still open? Not knowing where it is I looked up and I am guessing it is closed.
I am looking to get a blade cut and our dealer here in KC asks for $220 or so. Unfortunately, I have two key fobs and no blades so I believe that I cannot just take it somewhere with a laser cut machine to get it cut.

My dealer told me I needed to go in person to get the blade cut which makes sense but I still would like to see the cost at other places first.

$220 What! That's crazy..........I purchase blanks off eBay (cheap) and had a local locksmith cut them for $25.
