Default About to Take The Plunge. Any Last Minute Advice?

Hi all. I am the proud owner of a 2011 XJL and like it so much I decided to add its little brother. Planning to buy a 2011 or 2012 XKR convertible. (Depending on what I can find.) Any of you XK owners have any last minute advice? Anything I should watch out for? Sorry if this post is an intrusion. Thanks.

Unless you're totally smitten by the design refresh of the '12, I would go with an '11 because the free maintenance covers wear and tear items for 5 years, whereas the '12 does not (and the free maintenance is only 4 years now). The cost of two sets of brake pads and rotors, along with the huge discount you should be able to get on an '11, is pretty significant. If they had upgraded the touch-screen as they did on the '12 XF, I would make a stronger case for getting the newest model...but it has the same OLD interface.

I can't think of anything to "watch out for." I've had my 2011 XKR for 13 months and I haven't even begun to fall out of love with it...quite the opposite, in fact. Just a fabulous car!

Counterpoint: If you get an 11 now, you're eating a full year of depreciation when it comes time to resell. Plus the regular 'drive off the lot' loss. It's about 12k to 15k a year in depreciation so... that's a lot brake pads / maintenance items to nom on. Perhaps I'm not that great at negotiation, but I couldn't get them to come down any more than 6k for the 11s they had on the lot, so I went with a 10 instead.

12s have the backup camera and new headlights... but that's about it vs the 11s. So if they'll come down far enough off of an 11 to eat that extra year of depreciation, I'd definitely say that's the bargain.

Good luck! ;D

Thanks everyone - right now I'm having trouble finding ANY of these cars. In Vegas there is only one - and it's the wrong color for me so time will tell.

Seattle has Verts in caramel/white and black/red in XKR. May have a black XK vert as well... haven't been by in a couple of weeks. Like I said, they weren't offering much off of sticker. They were both optioned with heated windscreens and the 5 spoke 20" wheels.

I bought my car from Jaguar of Tacoma (South of Seattle) and they currently have two XK Coupes. I don't see any XKRs on the website but I know they had one just about a week ago in black. Call their main number and ask for Gordon Dewitt. He's a super nice sales guy and I'm sure they can work with you on either picking up the vehicle or shipping it for you.
