Default AC parts

Hi there guys, I wrote a while back about a strong smell coming from my AC in my XK and a few of you offered some help which is much appreciated.

It turns out the smell is coming from a leak in the AC evaporator and it means a dash removal and replacement unit. The Air con shop is having trouble finding a reasonably priced replacement and the Jaguar dealership here in NZ wants $2000 or one thousand pounds for a new one. Does anyone know of a link to any OEM suppliers dealing in said parts?

All up It is going to cost $4000 to get rid of the smell.. Ouch.

I would search some of the salvage breakers . I imagine they are all the same so it shouldn't be to much of a problem locating one. Also the smell should go away when all of the freon leaks out. Last option is to remove the old one and see what the damage is . It may be possible to have it repaired.

Hey thanks for the reply.

There are very few parts for XKs here in NZ so we are at the mercy of the dealership unfortunately. Any parts shipped from the UK take about 2 weeks so I'm reluctant to have the repair shop pull the old part not knowing if they can repair it.

There are a lot of AC condensers available online but almost no evaporators.

Any competent Radiator Repair shop SHOULD be able to repair an evaporator. They are basically small high-pressure radiators.

Thank you for the reply! That's a point about someone being able to repair it. I'll have another chat to the gentleman doing the repairs tomorrow. Best regards, Brian.
