Actual MPG in the 07-09 XK or XKR
I routinely drive from Seattle to Vancouver (~150 mi trip), all highway, 2007 XK Coupe, always 9 above legal speed limit with cruise (69 some areas, 79 in many). Average MPG works out to about 29MPG (calculated with an iPhone, not the onboard computer). No AirCon, no extended aerial cable.
Having fun in Vancouver and Richmond (all city roads, hills, and traffic) gives me 12MPG and a million looks.
Once I did the trip in my girlfriend's '09 benz SLK (not recommended, highly uncomfortable on highway) while trying to conserve fuel (following semi-trucks, accelerating before hills, etc) and got 35(!!!)MPG from the optimistic ECU. Considering it's only rated 25 for highway I'm sure some hypermiling tactics in an XK could bring it up to at least that much.

so guys (and gals) I'm curious....has anyone checked the car computer to tha "actual" put gasoline in the tank gas mileage? Don't know why I haven't done this other than I guess it is everything I can do to keep from kicking the gas pump when I fill up....maybe we'll get to see a dollar a mile gas soon...I sure hope for change....
How about total mileage per tank? It infuriates me that every time I fill up the computer reads about 383 miles to empty, but the reality is that I'm usually filling back up after about 285 miles! (Daily driver, lots of traffic on my commuting route but highway time too. Truly frustrating.)
I calculated the MPG with the actual gas put into the car. Twice it gave me the same results, indicating that the computer would be a little less than 1 MPG optimistic. That is about the same figure I observed in my '05 XK with the same drive train package as in my '08.
Right now my last 1000+ miles displayed MPG average is 26.8. Mostly highway but, does include days worth of urban driving, as well. Can't complain.

When the Nav system alerts me with a yellow triangle and exclamation point and starts showing gas stations on the map, that usually motivates me to refill. At that point I'm putting in 14-16 gallons ... I think. I'll check later this week.
Hwy 101, Northern California driving, 91 octane, Wind Deflector and front AND rear windows up driving, Economy mode climate control (outside air flow, no A.C)
Cruising @ 70 mph with top UP (30 mile mostly flat stretch): 29 mpg
Cruising @75 mph with top UP (short sprint): 27 mpg
Cruising @ 75 mph with top UP (with A/C on): 24 mpg
Cruising @70 mph with top DOWN (30 mile mostly flat stretch): 26.5 mpg
Cruising @75 mph with top DOWN (short flat sprint): 25 mpg
Hope this helps. It is really city driving in short sprints (esp. with the A/C on) that kills gas mileage. But this car is really such a wonderful boulevard cruiser. And it looks better with the top down. Sigh.

Used to get about 24 mpg on Dunlops; now get 22 on Hankooks but much smoother and quiter ride. Same driving conditions & distances .............. what you save on tyres you put in tank!!

Every time I get gas I check the average. Running between 22-23.5mpg in mixed driving in Atlanta. A/C on. 75mph on the highway when I'm there. No way I'd choose an n/a over the R for about 1mpg difference. I've driven both side by side. You learn to drive it smooth quickly.
2007 XKr; at cruising speed on the autobahn with 140 km/h, 22,2 mpg. at speeds of 180 km/h, 16 mpg. At 80 km/h, 27 mpg.
All according to the spilled gas (that's no spilling at all, with the fun provided) from the gas bill and driven miles.

From what I've heard, both XKR coupes and convertibles yield about 3 mpg less on the highway and 2 mpg less in the city than their XK counterparts, assuming standard configuration throughout and same driving conditions.
Any convertible driven with the top UP should yield ALMOST the same gas mileage as the corresponding coupe. I say 'almost' since the convertible still weighs about 40 lb more than a coupe. Not sure how much difference in mpg the weight differential creates; 0.5 mpg at most? 0.25 mpg is more realistic.
Driving with the top down, based on unscientific measurements, I'd say you lose about 2 mpg on the highway (you may see more of a drop in your cars if you don't have a wind deflector installed and drive without the rear window raised (see thejagwrangler's hack)). The benefits to airflow and noise reduction from these hacks is really impressive.
The mileage drop effect in convertibles should be somewhat lesser in the city since turbulence caused by the lowered top is much reduced at lower velocities.
Leads me to infer that that 17/27 mpg is actually realistic for a 4.2L XK convertible and based on the above, 15/24 mpg is probably realistic for a 4.2L XKR.

I just drove 650 miles on a trip recently in my XK8. I got an average of 21 mpg. Funny thing is I just purchased a new Ford Fusion with the ecoboost engine and after driving 400 miles I had an MPG average of 24.9. Not much different and the Jag is so much more comfortable and rides smoother. Not bad for a 14 year old car!
I recently purchased a 2007 XK with about 30K on the clock and recently drove it on a 1200 mile trip through Arizona and California. I got just under 28mpg with most cruising at about 80mph.
In the city, I get about 23mpg.

On a recent trip at sustained interstate speeds the trip computer read:
31 MPG
Average speed 69.8 MPH
Air conditioning: "on".
Cruise control: "on".
Windows: "up".
I am quite pleased.
2007 Jaguar XK coupe.
I'd just like to add: That, "I have the most beautiful car on the planet".

Guys, thanks for all the postings. I am busy looking for an XKR 2001-2006 range in the UK and often wondered what the MPG would be. Basically from what I have read above 19 - 25 mpg depending on road conditions, car etc.
My BMW got on average 29 MPG but does not have the grin factor that the XK does.
I cannot push the "Thanks" button for everyone of you but will do it for the original post.

Actually guys you should not be counting MPG but GPM or LPS. My friend just bought a convertible XKR. With myself in the passenger seat the GPM went up and after stopping for a drink, us not the car, the LPS got a count of two straight away.
If you have not heard of GPM or LPP it is not surprising. I just made it up
GPM = Grins per mile
LPS = Looks per Stop. (be it for petrol or parking both count)
You guys ever counted you GPM or LPS factors?

Well, you all get much better mileage than me!
I'm assuming the transmission in sport mode with active paddle shifting, the aircon always on, even with the windows down, the occasional rev just to hear the rumble, and one to please the children, and my favorite tunes loud enough to really enjoy them may be the culprit... But I adore everything about this car and I'm not changing any of it!
Cheers!
