All this tire talk , how about OEM wear
I don't want to beat a dead horse as I realize tire wear is dependent on your right foot but I was wondering what the normal wear is for the Dunlop OEM tires on the XKR. I have 8K miles on my OEM's and they still look good. I have not beat (traction ON) them as I drive both local and some highway type driving. For those who have gone through this what has been your normal wear. I see the other post on some aftermarket tires getting 25K+ but somehow I don't think I will get this out of these Dunlops. Also as would be expected the rears will go 1st so has anyone had any issues with mixing different brands on the front and rear. I do notice these tires are a little noisy so for my next set I will be looking for a more smooth/quieter riding tire. I must admit I can't help hitting the go peddle but that is from a rolling start. By the way I have the 20" wheels.
I recently bought a new set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo. When I had the new tires mounted the tire shop removed 2 OEM Dunlap tires. They had about 14,800 miles and still had great thread left.
I saved the 2 Dunlaps for future use if needed in an emergency situation.
I was impressed with the thread remaining. So if your considering the OEM Dunlaps, they are probably a good choice.

Only problem, to me, with the stock Dunlops is they are lousy below 50 degrees and feel numb (yet very stiff casings) so car rides like a truck. My Evora actually rides better on Pirelli PZero Corsas!!!

I can add, my Portfolio, has OEM Dunlops (20") with 42K miles. The fronts still have enough tread to pass our strict state inspections. The rear tires are even better.

You must push your car a lot (by hand, that is?). 2/32nds is a pass I bet. At 4/32nds they have like 10% of their original hydroplaning resistance FYI. At 2/32nds they are scary on ANYTHING except a DRY road. Part humor and part real (the scary stuff, that is)
Yeah, funny, all scary, that's why, I purchased 4 new Bridgstones. 255X35X20 by 285X235X20. So, we'll see how they run, This will be a 3rd car in a family with one driver, so they may dry rot first LOL. My '09 Venza only has 22200K, or so, as this week.

As a general rule I start thinking about replacing my tires once they pass the halfway mark or around 5/32nds. There's a lot of rain in Florida and tires are useless without a decent amount of meat left. Of course my XK has not seen rain yet nor will it unless I get an incorrect forecast when I go out for a pleasure drive.
What is the groups perspective on tires "aging out"? Like many of you - I put few miles on my XKR and as it is 2011 with just 13K miles (tires still look like new to my eye) I am starting to wonder if it's time due to "age"? Real issue or urban myth?
I've got 45,000km on my 2011. I've only had it since late last year (bought with just on 40,000km (25,000 miles) on it, and the rear tyres (20"s, Dunlop) were pretty worn when I got it (but still plenty of meat) and the compound felt quite hard. i initially thought they must be the second set, but maybe they are hard because they are old, and they were the first set. I'm just about down to the wear indicator now, and have looked at the other very useful thread comparing tyres. I've got the tyre guys giving me some options, probably between Kuhmo, Hankook, and a few other mid range. I think Sumitomo are hard to get here.
Does the XKR have an option to have Michelin PSS?!? On tire rack I do not see this option for the XKR, only XKR-S (and at that you can get the 305's as well as 295's). I see nothing for a 2012 XKR Coupe regarding Michelin PSS.
The size was the same as the stock tire and the Michelin is a much better tire, many people feel its the best tire of this type that you can buy and that was my experience as well. I think I bought them in 2012.
A couple of friends with Merc gull wings race and swear by this tire. By the way, I have driven the Merc gull wings at around 560 hp and its a good car, but the Ftype R is a better handling car and way more fun and one of my friends with the gull wing thought the XKR I had was better as well. The gull wing is loose in the rear end, in my opinion.
Anyway, back to topic, it was the Merc guys that first told be about these PSS tires and they were right.

2011 XK vert, live in Fl. have 23K on Dunlaps OEM. Just had vehicle in for service last month and tires balanced. Tech said I have good tread depth and could get another 10K out of them. Ride is a little rough but not bad. I will go for the Dunlaps again when time comes.
Just call a tire shop or, go on the Michelin web site and you should have your answer.
