I wonder if spraying it with compressed air helps, or is it really buried in there?

 

I can't hear it with the engine on, and barely can with the engine off. I never have really worried about it. I might if I could hear it with the engine running.

Finally took my car back to the dealership for a few things and the same aspirator noise. This time they said they could not duplicate it, which means to me, they all do it. If I had another XK to compare it to, I would know how to proceed. It's not overwhelming, but it's there. It's a hissing, or similar to the fan sound from older desktop computers. Can I hear it with the engine running at a stop sign? if I listen for it... yes. Sometimes it revs as I accelerate and can be annoying to me, but it looks like another minor characteristic I may have to live with. Bottom line is, if the aspirator is really comprised of a tiny fan, how could it not make any noise and be completely silent? I wonder if I pointed it out to other Jaguar owners, would they say, "oh that noise"? "I never even noticed it until you pointed it out to me".

 

Dealer fixed mine under warranty. It's a little quieter but still noticeable. It's not terribly annoying.

 

If the sound gets louder when you accelerate, it doesn't sound like an aspirator problem. Take it back to Jag and tell them that they didn't fix the problem. Oh, and when I took my 2010 to the dealer, they did replace the aspirator and the noise is gone.

 

Did you try what I suggested in the second post on this thread. It will take you seconds to get to the aspirator and if the noise goes when you loosen or adjust the bolts, you have found your problem!

After evaluating the noise I originally posted, I'm becoming more convinced it may not be the aspirator that is making the noise after all. I've found that although the noise is not always there, it is directly related to the engine and trans shifting through the gears. It is a very faint whirring noise that follows precisely with the shifting of the trans. If I'm in drive, and hit the accelerator pedal, the noise rises with the revving of the engine. It does not make the noise when in neutral or when idling. I will investigate further and see if it is most noticeable when the car is fully warmed up. I sure hope it's not transmission related or internal. It sounds like it's in the car but sound has a way of traveling. I might have to start a new post with this one. I do have one month left on my factory warranty and am planning on getting an extended warranty as well. Any thoughts?

I bought an 2009 XKR Portfolio today and showing similar problem. Noise is not the issue, I am worried that it will drain the battery if it does not go off. I have heard it even after an hour.

 

If you lock the car it should shut off in a few minutes max.

 

I'll try that tomorrow morning and report - Will keep windows open so as not to open the door. Tonight I have disconnected the battery (just in case)

 

I'm almost surprised that this was not mentioned within an hour of posting concerns about battery discharge, but many of us use a battery tender as these cars use a lot of juice even whilst in winter hibernation. Cheap piece of mind. Ctek seems to be the preferred brand.

 

The smalll fan aspirator has been part of the Jaguar system for years, as has already been stated. This unit is officially called the "Cabin Humidity and Temperature Sensor". This sensor and fan go into action instantly when the exterior door handle is moved in order to prepare the climate control for proper operation. The fan unit continues to operate for about a half hour after the engine is shut off IF the car is not locked (in which case it operates for a shorter period). You can indeed test this by leaving a window open and locking the car. But with regard to worries about your battery - please do yourself a favour: get a CTEK battery maintainer and use it when the car is not in daily use. These cars are very sensitive to lower-than-optimal battery voltage. The car will always start - but if the battery voltage drops you will get random electronic system symptoms: the touch screen, seats, door locks, warning lights etc...,may show, will show problems. There will be in fact no problem other than a low battery voltage! Jaguar, in fact, markets the CTEK charger under its own brand (as does Mercedes, Audi, Range Rover, Maserati and others - and they do so for the reason I have just given. They are all battery current monsters.

I can't be the only person who had this sound! Very audible with the windows open or top down. But not present if the A/C was in econ mode or off.

 

Mine is a daily driver so should be okay, plus I'll lock it even when in the garage. I know fan stops a few minutes after the lock is activated. When I have some free time, I'll see how long it goes on for without locking.


A thought:
If it was not noisy and spun around as long as it liked quietly, I would not know about it and not be worried about the battery discharge
