My audio all seems fine quality both with the in car cds etc and via internet thru the Bovee. However when using my iPhone Maps with verbal directions it plays thru the car speakers ok but very crackly and a slight drop in volume level at the beginning of every instruction. I currently have the phone supported on one of those cd holders with the charging cable plugged into the usb in the center console and the Bovee plugged into the iPod outlet. Not a big deal but would be nice to clear it if anyone has any knowledge to share.

ok so i might get some strange things happening if its plugged in there and also connected to Bovee?Originally Posted by arenaej
The usb in the console is not a phone charger. It’s for a flash drive with music files on it.
When I am streaming music on Spotify or similar it will only play one track then I have to manually touch the next track to get it to play, weird.

Specifically, your 11 yo car supports a few music formats with specific maximum sampling rates and bit depth. It is outlined in your owners manual as it differs for different MY of car. You may have pressed the limits.
FWIW, I find high quality analogue signals via the aux ports “sound better”. Or consider “sampling down” your source files.
Frankly, the DAC in an iphone today is years in evolution beyond that tech of even just a few years ago.
Coincidentally, yet again, I’ve upgraded my DAC in my home stereo. This seems to be an every 5 year event. Those with more $$$ do so every 3 years. The curse of the digital age. My analogue (tube) amps and exceptional speakers (costing more than our cars) are nearing 15 years old…. with no need to upgrade yet.

If you are so inclined, attach an usb charging detection device to the port. You may discover that the voltage and current supplied are sufficient to read a usb memory stick… but not really sufficient for charging a battery. (as per the charging specs of your device)
Incidentally “charging” in usb 2.0 is not “intelligent” as it is implemented in usb-c. Thus different usb 2.0 chargers will provide different outputs. usb-c maintains an auto-detect sequence.

OP.... if Guy is correct, which it sounds correct, you should be able to go into your spotify settings (or any app nowadays) and actually change the quality of the music/bitrate to maybe match what your car likes better. I know spotify has an ultra HD setting for their music that plays music in its highest quality possible - ignoring any data saving mechanism. I have unlimited so it was never an issue for me. I also have the android screen installed and the music is amazingly better than stock. Bitrate was never an issue.Originally Posted by guy

This system was designed before there was an iPhone. It’s was never designed to charge a phone. The iPod connection will charge your iPod with the correct cable, but the usb is only designed for flash drives with music files.Originally Posted by alanroberts50

The USB in the console doesn't charge my iPhone, nor does the iPod connector charge my iPod. This is despite the Portable Audio section of the Owner's Manual clearly stating it will charge both USB and iPod devices (although I'll admit the iPod problem might be the knock-off cable I bought on Amazon). That said, there is a USB in the glovebox that will charge an iPhone albeit at a hideously slow rate.Originally Posted by arenaej

For the original question about the spoken directions quality: I'd first determine how the spoken directions are getting to the car speakers. Is going over the Bovee, or through the car's native Bluetooth connection? My iPhone is paired to the car for voice calls, and the quality is pretty meh.
