Default Back to it - Winston Salem/Greensboro

Ok, after a break getting the middle kid all set for college, I’m back to the search.

Seems prices have gone up a bit, but found a gentleman selling by his black XK conv for $15k.
49k miles.

Needs a new top (I read the recent thread, found a guy top + labor $3100). And a new battery. $350.
he dropped the price in our PM to $10k.
So I’d be in $14k total assuming that’s all it needs.

Looking for a good place in WS area that can do the complete diagnostic before I hand over the cash.

Also wondering how a grey top from OEM+ would look on a black XK vs the black on black if anyone has opinions or pics.

as always welcome any words of wisdom or questions I should ask before making the 2hr drive as this will be my first jag.

Thanks!
Frederick

added pic for what it’s worth.

Thanks! Been searching for a nearby jaguar specialist to schedule a full head to toe analysis.

Right?

and now I’m torn because someone just listed a 2010 (5.0) XKR conv also $15k.
But has 134k miles… seems high.

Noted. Been scanning the forums for a mileage upper limit where things just start going south.

Hope you can find one. I am VERY close to you and around my parts, I'm it 😂 and I'm not even really. Just experienced, not an expert. Besides a dealer, who I'm pretty sure won't even look at anything older than 10 years old now, not sure you will find someone who legit is. There may be a couple of guys who SAY they are, but if I were you, I would certainly ask a few questions about their credentials. Beautiful example you are looking at there. I couldn't imagine owning one without the skill set, tools, and place to work on them myself only nearly 98% of anything. Well either that, or money to throw around lol.

Maybe I missed it but that appears to be a MY 2012+ with under 50K miles for $10K??? seems like a bargain if it's in good condition and in good working order.

2012. But I think it’s still the all too common FB marketplace scam.
Here was the end of our convo after I got pricing on a new top:
(His reply was just a thumbs up…)

Thanks, sorry, meant 2012... Did you try a VIN search? As CeeJay suggested, google search the profile pic but also old FB accounts get hacked for scammer use. At 64, that's not old at all, so a strange reason. Over 70 perhaps, health issues, etc I would understand.Shouldn't be too difficult to verify, also perhaps a forum member would be willing to look at in person.

An easier thing would be to simply ask for the VIN. If you were gonna run a car fax, run one. That will give you better clues because sure they can do a search and find a vin of a similar vehicle but at the Carfax is not going to match up with location and all that stuff.

25 years ago bought an 88 HE Xjs from Florida..

Pics were great!

Car was OK

had cigarette but in the ashtray.

My wife and I spent countless hours details it...

It was so slow..

An etype came up for sale 6 months later..

Sold it for a 3000 buck lost..

But got a steal on the etype!!

Yeah, I saw this one come up in my feed also. Part of me thinks he was legit, but then part maybe not. I think,.if it were a scam, he'd be actively working it most likely.. Do you even go on Bring a Trailer? They often have really nice XKs of that's what you are after.
