Ha the irony, I'm in NC and see a ton of Eastern VA XKs and XKRs on FB marketplace.

I'm not looking for a particular one. XK, XKR. Just a convertible and 2008 or newer that was well cared for.
I'm eyeballing an 08 portfolio XKR. bit more than I want to spend, but this guy has all his records and really cared for it.

Weird, totally thought I responded to this last night. Anyway, case in point on BaT offerings right now.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...convertible-6/

Kingsport is really that far either. Would be a fun trip back. Shipping probably wouldn't be too terrible either. In fact I know a guy, lol. My brother owns a tow company just across the border. I also have a car hauler. BaT is great if you want mostly well taken care of examples. Though, sometimes the competition could be deep. I can't figure it out on Jags on BaT though. Sometimes there is a lot of competition and sometimes not at all on very similar models often. Either way, I keep an eye out there for 50s era (or before) projects. Though there are loads of tempting Jaguar offers 😂

Maybe contact Collectableclassics (from bat) and offer a finders fee? They used to do a lot of low mileage jags but got burned recently and don't seem to be auctioning jags much any longer.

Thanks Farm.
Seems even auto trader has gone full blown retail, so near impossible to find the ones being sold by the actual owner. And FB mktplace is half scams.

Took a loot at BaT and may actually bid on that one although right now it is nowhere close to what the reserve may be.

Still loving the idea of the rarer portfolio xkr even if it is a tad older.
thanks again!

Facebook Marketplace is very sketchy. Loads of dealers and scammers. If it's a great deal, way harder to get it as there are so many dealers as well as individuals looking. Much better going for a fair to higher price and than start negotiating. Even better buying privately, but we all know how hard that can be.

Yeah, But the challenge is that so many sellers who are legit feel like Facebook marketplace has the most eyes so to speak that they use it as well. What you get is someplace. That's hard to determine legit versus non-legit. Luckily, in my area, a lot of guys still use Craigslist which is not perfect but is quite a bit better somehow I guess when your you are advertising on Facebook marketplace. You also get.... Facebook. And I think it depends on what you're looking for to be honest. I happen to buy projects so kind of clapped out, non-running, haven't been run in 10 years. Type of things. Usually that's easier to go with on Facebook marketplace. Reason being there's not a ton of money in that and if people are going to run a scam they're probably going to do it with something that's going to make them a bit of money. Bring a trailer is awesome, but as someone who is a builder, it's really only more looks for me. While there are some great deals to be had on some really awesome Jaguars (and other cars too), that's not the market that I'm in. Perhaps if, when I'm older, I can't or am done with working on them maybe then. Good luck @Circumnavigator , I'll be watching (bc I already had it saved anyway). Note, there seems to be a lot of xk's relatively speaking that come up on a weekly basis. The only challenge there is is that it's national, well heck international because Canada is included there too. So great cars, but not necessarily great location!

Then you should be picking up the high mileage one I looked at. Cheap as heck for a 2010 XKR vert. Top looks newish, but I heard a bit of a knock at running temp, so if DIY would be a reasonable timing chain/tensioners, supercharger tune-up.
Hoses were good, must have been replaced. No leaks after test drive. Cats look replaced. But def something with the timing, which is the main reason I walked away. Suspension was obviously recently done. Bushings were shiny.
Needs some interior TLC and exterior rubber work on windshield but the body itself and paint was flawless.

Was listed for $15, he told me he'd take $12K. But as we were parting, he said he is $9k in for trade-in and its cash. Betcha can get and fix it up for $10k. Maybe turn for a few k.

How did the dealer, Collectible Classics get “burned”?

I do now. On a recommendation from someone above.
watching one right now to see how the flow works.
Nowhere near what the reserve should be with 3.5 days left. So wondering if the flurry of bids comes in during the last 12-24hrs.

Watching and learning.

Flurry is during the last 2 minutes, 2 minutes, 2 minutes, …
The auction end clock resets to 2 minutes remaining each time a bid arrives during the last 2 minute interval, so if there is a flurry, the auction actual end time can be much much later, if there are active bidders wanting the vehicle.

Good to know, thank you.

Are you able to put in a cap/max bid and auto bid or does it have to be manually?

@Circumnavigator Yes. Bring a Trailer (BaT) uses a proxy bidding system that can be seen as an automatic bid process. When you place a bid on a BaT auction, you enter the maximum amount you're willing to pay. The system then automatically bids on your behalf, up to your maximum, in incremental amounts as needed to keep you in the lead. This prevents you from having to constantly monitor the auction and manually increase your bid.

The system will only bid enough to keep you ahead of other bidders, up to your maximum. If someone bids in the last two minutes, the auction timer resets, giving everyone a chance to respond. If you win, BaT charges a buyer's premium, typically 5% of the winning bid price.

Thanks Stuart, mostly for not saying RTFM and posting a that link. This was what I was wondering. So I have to figure the 5% into my total cost on top of max bid. Perfect.

You are correct about the XKR Portfolio being rare.
How Rare is my 2009 XKR Portfolio Convertible?

Other than exterior colors, the most significant difference between the Celestial Black 2008 and Shadow Grey 2009 Portfolio models is iPod connectivity, which became standard equipment in 2009.

Be patient, "the one" is out there. It's just a matter of time.

Sorry, not true. There is no proxy bidding. What you enter is what you’ve bid, so be careful!
