Well, well well.... Unicorn?
I am a firm believer in patience wins and when looking for something, you have to know when it is the right thing.
So, After seeing/driving the beat to death '10 XKR on Friday and walking away, I decided to slow my roll, watch BaT auctions here and there and wait for the 'right' one.
Low and behold, as always seems to happen (even meeting my wife which is another story), I end up talking to a guy.
Turns out his grandfather just passed and he inherited a 2007 XK vert. 50k miles.
As per usual, I asked if he knew if there were service records. He did not.
But the way he put it, "He had it since 2014 and more less liked to look at it than drive it."
The only issue he knows of is the rear window glue gave up at the top, so that would need to be repaired.
Had him send me a few pics. Interior looks pristine. Top looks pristine. Can't even see a scratch on the exterior.
Oh and did I mention, when he sent me the pics, there was a nice little R on the trunk lid opposite the XK?
Did I just find a unicorn??

Vents in the bonnet? Or didn't you get a picture of the front?
The father of a friend of mine a long time ago went to check out a "mid-60s Chevrolet for sale" and it turned out to be a Corvette. Yeah, he bought it.

Yes vents. And based on the pics, he wasn't kidding when he said grandpa never drove it.
I did ask for the sill pic. Not a portfolio. But I kinda knew that based on the color.
So if the car was very occasionally driven, doing worst case scenario, I have to think of the things that go wrong with age as opposed to use. Suspension? Anything rubber or plastic? Top mechanism? ??

Anything normal for any 18 year old car.
Every fluid, probably every bushing and boot, probably paint correction if it hadn't been waxed, and if the top hasn't been down in a long time, maybe seals or even a cracked top fabric if it dried out. That's what may have ended the rear window seal.
Still though, I'd think it very worthy of a good look.

Figured I'd do a SC service, oil change, its nearing 60k so a transmission service regardless, given no records.
First real upgrade, assuming nothing else is wrong is to buy one of those "replace the plastic/rubber with aluminum" kits and do that myself.
Planning to go see it Friday/Saturday.
After coming into every square inch of the pics, the roof seems ok, but def aged.
Will have to budget in a new top ($3100 twill) into the price.
(see attached)
Separated window.
Can tell it is a bit old and worn.

Get a PPI and negotiate from there!
Yep, I pasted it into my master checklist. Thanks for that!
@Circumnavigator The color appears to be Radiance, with Caramel interior, one of my favorite color combinations. It's a 2007, which means it has a power antenna on the right rear fender. Make sure it works and goes up and down when you turn the radio on and off. That was eliminated in 2008, when the antenna was hidden inside the rear spoiler.
I doubt that you'll find a nicer XKR within driving distance.
Here's a similar 2007 XKR Convertible auction from BaT. It sold for $16,500 after not meeting the Seller's reserve.

Many have sold for less, but they needed work.
Good luck

Update time.
Seller wasn't very responsive on marketplace. Finally provided the VIN so I ran a carfax. Confirms his grandfather owned it since 2014.
Then sent him a long summary of questions and he sent me his phone#.
We just chatted.
Grandpa died around a year ago. Grandma doesn't want it. Nobody else in the family wants it or knows what it is.
So seller took it to his cousin who works at a dealership, put in a new battery, buffed it up and he posted it.
Then it went back in the garage with a cover (tarp) over it. Told him not a good idea and I'd take the cover off. (paint swirls and humidity)
Said everything works fine last time they moved it around and he isn't sure it is 58k miles but it is between 54k and 60k.
I asked how long it has been sitting. He said a few weeks since last started.
I recommended he go start it up and let it run for a bit. Get the juices flowing and make sure battery is charged. (Told him the 12.6V)
Now to find a PPI place. Nothing but small rural shops within 30 miles. Did find a Toyota dealership....
I think I can grab this '07 50-something K mile xkr vert for about 12K from the chat. Which gives me the wiggle room for a new top ($3100 installed) and be around $15k total in.

I’m seeing it Friday. Yeesh some of us still work 9-5s ya know.
And haha Stuart that is true.
But lemme tell ya, in BFE trying to find a place to do a PPI is near impossible. Found a Toyota dealership 20m away. Fml. But gotta take what I can get.
