Sounds nice! Similarly I just picked up a 2009 XKR Portfolio from my friends mother in law's estate. They had a really nice car collection- if only I had deeper pockets :-). My new to me XKR Portfolio now has 17,500 miles on it and is show room clean! Did have to redo the dash though, but found a guy here in DFW who was able to match leather and stitching exactly.

I’ve done several project cars starting w a 00 XK8 that didn’t run. It was educational. Recommend buy the best car you can afford. Good service. PIPI. If the car is in good shape and has been well maintained, it will be cheaper, easier, less frustrating and more fun in the long run. The 09 XKR Portfolio sounds interesting. Good luck

Excellent! It’s a big win when you find a low mileage XK/R that’s been well maintained by a wealthy owner. My one owner 07 XKR (33k) babied the car. Looked new, drove perfectly. He lived in an expensive SF zip code. Long service history w everything done right. Open checkbook. Before he sold it, all fluids changed, software updated. In the 2 years I’ve owned it, just the duckbill which I DIY. It’s been fun every time I drive. Also happy w the 20k purchase price.

wrong color but could offer him 6. Sounds like he’ll take any offer. Have it shipped to you maybe 750.

Yes. An avid, experienced DIYer could easily restore it to her former beauty.
Just too much for a first timer like me to take on. I’m mechanically inclined but not a mechanic and not retired. And I’d need it as my daily driver.

I didn’t detect anything catastrophically wrong with her and she drove very well, codes and all.
Rounded dent. Would need paint. New battery and hard reset could clear the gremlins. And back window re-glued.
And a purist would want to swap the 19s with the original 20s.
The interior is quite rough. No dash shrinkage but a small patch of triangle shaped leather under the rear windows is trashed. Everything inside is scratched up and worn. But works, right down to the lumbar.
Oh and the one remaining key fob is physically damaged and inoperable, so have to put it in the slot to start.

My cost all in at an Indy shop, plus interior shop and a lot of eBay interior parts would be at least $10k.
DIY? Hard to say but maybe $6k? Dunno.

And what would be the market price for a restored to dark good, well running 2007 XKR vert with 58k miles and only the resto as a service history?
at 10-12k am I break-even?

If you are not a DIYr, regardless of even a great price, you will need to depend upon others to sort things out which could eventually be over the top. Personally, I'd still go for a car that has been taken care of with records to minimize your aggravation and efforts. Our cars are known to be temperamental, so unless you have the time to DIY or the deep pockets to send it out....go for the best you can find and afford. You'll thank yourself in the long run.

Wow that's certainly a find. I'm in DFW too. Where did you have your dash done, and what did it run you? I don't need it yet, but I know it's almost inevitable.

100% agree. If non DIY, cheap Jags get expensive. This one might be interesting if you like to work on them.

The little voice in my head keep re-evaluating. Most of the stuff it needs I can do. I was a nuclear electrician for cryin out loud haha.
For a minute I thought: I could get it for 8 put in 5 sell it for 17 and grab the '08 xkr portfolio.
The look my wife gave me... well let's just say no.

@Charlie Bravo Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your new 2009 XKR Portfolio Convertible! Time, not mileage, takes its toll on rubber parts and you'll probably find many of them will need to be replaced - hoses, weatherstripping, suspension bushings, and more. There are many threads in this Forum that can help.

I suggest that you add your car to the 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition Registry. You'll learn what makes it special.

This is what makes mine special: How rare is my 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible?

I'm sure you have a laundry list of things you need to do, so add this mod - it's what the factory forgot and is the most popular DIY mod among convertible owners on this and the X100 (previous steel-body XK/XKR) forums. See. this old thread from 2016.

Enjoy this video:
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine!
Stuart

So @Stuart S is there a 2008 registry?

and seems at the 31m mark we have the gents and inspector in B block to blame for the gremlins.

I had toyed with the idea of picking up this car for whatever price, swap interior parts that look worn with those from my existing 2007 XK (same color combo, including my wood trimmed steering wheel), along with other goodies I’ve added to the current car over the years, and then sell the XK for whatever, and satisfy my ‘R’ envy. But I can already see that same look from my wife.
Just need to find a way to get her out of the house for a couple months…

Interiors of Dallas. The guys is awesome. Had JAGMAC take the dash out and reinstall it for 1k. Interiors of Dallas did the new leather and stitching for $1,500. I had to rebuild and install the defroster vents.- JB weld plastic epoxy, sand and paint.

Been there, done that. The math never works. Buy the best car you can afford that has a good service history and doesn't need work. If these cars are well maintained, they'll go the distance. Also listen to your wife. Found out mine likes 90 in the XKR. Good luck
