Default Bad Evening in Mobile - Coolant Leak

Oh well, Let the grandson use the Jag for about 2 weeks now. Good Kid.

Today I get the call, Car is overheating. of course I think its Hallowene and Im being pranked. No such luck.

Car is parked is a big parking lot, I get there with a Gallon of Coolant. Pour it in and it runs out the bottom as fast as I pour it. No previous indications of any leaking.

Im watching for location and dont see anything from above. Looking underneath its coming out about the middle of the engine , but then the covers are all in place.

I'll bring it home in the morning.

Any thoughts what Im in for ?

my answer is Jaguar. It has lasted this long...
In fact as it has probably not been done... it's certainly time for all the hoses.

I also would change ALL the water pipes at once.

I paid € 800 for all water pipes, Original Jaguar, including thermostat and thermostat housing, but from an independent vendor. Haven´t had them installed up to now. If it ain´t broke, don´t fix it!

You should think about changing some other things, too: Water pump? Timing chain?

Na. Water pump issues apply to the 5.0 liter as do the timing chain tensioners. No need to go down the rabbit hole on the 07. Mud Dog if you do start changing hoses and decide to do the thermostat, replace the whole housing. Plastic.... They don't make metal ones either. Sorry no help with sourcing the hoses other than guy's suggestion. I can help with a parts search once you ID the hose.

You do have a dealer in Mobile (good folks) but of course that means dealer prices. If you have time to wait on parts, I’ve been pleased with Rimmer Bros.

It's an XK with the plastic T-stat housing. Pop it apart and make sure that it's not turning gray and shredding inside from the excessive heat. BTDT with the kids old '05 NA LS...

If you’re looking at line drawings, they’re usually wrong, don’t look like the part at all.
Just make sure you get the right type, the XK and XKR coolers are different. (Bought an XKR version by mistake, and it didn’t look anything like my XK version, returned it and got the XK version).

The rest of the story

looking dead on at the cooler from the front , its obvious one corner is lower down than the other.
That corner took a hit as can be seen.
The cooler split. Now what., Couple things come to mind. New is about $500 , Used if I could find one , Tig this one.

The Grandson had to have hit something , probably a speedbump.

I think that although your grandson is a 'good kid', he couldn't resist playing with way more car than he was ready for. Heck, most adults would get into trouble driving these things.

Google the Jaguar P/N and see what comes up. Today I received the 55k mile driveshaft from Pacific via eBay, $66 w tax delivered from Michigan. Looks very good in spite of being a little dirty. Unobtainable from the dealer.

Think I paid ~$135 for a used one from Pacific on eBay a few years ago (my eBay history doesn’t go back far enough).
Might try contacting breakers directly to see if they have one.
Interim? Bend it back and weld that seam?

Huh? A few years later, and Ford still had some in the parts bin?

Good find, we should start a sticky with a list of modern Ford parts which suit Jags....
