Default Battery charging

Sorry for this silly question but not at home right now. Is it safe to charge the battery using the charging points in the boot? In other words leaving the battery in place and without disconnecting it?
thanks
alan

Yes. This is what the workshop manual shows to connect a charger for battery support on that car.

Thank you all! I also found a ctek pigtail connected in the boot and my friend has a ctek v7 which I was using hooked up per your diagram. Will try the pigtail connection if I need another charge.

I've used the remote battery terminals in the trunk to connect my CTEK (and previous) battery maintainer using the alligator clips for over 15 years without any problems. It's the quickest and easiest way to attach a battery maintainer. The trunk lid closes over the wire and doesn't pinch it.

OK, please tell me if I'm doing something wrong on my '09 XK:

I have my Ctek connected directly to the battery terminals via a pig tail that I have coming from behind the panel, i.e. I'm not using the connecting points as shown in the photo above. I've done this now for two years (I keep it connected all the time when not in use) with no apparent issues. I did it this way as I seem to recall that it's OK because it's an '09 but one shouldn't do this with 2010's and newer. Or am I doing some kind of electrical damage that will rear its ugly head in the future?

Can someone straighten me out?

And just as a point of information, I am doing this the same way with all my cars, including the two batteries on the 2011 SL550.

You’re fine with your ‘09 4.2L. No BMS, no worries.

Whew. I thought that's what I read after I got it, but this thread made me start second-guessing myself.
Thanks, I appreciate the confirmation.

My 2013 has a ctek pigtail already installed in the boot. Is it safe to hook up to that with a ctek charger?

Check the polarity first, then as long as it isn't damaged there shouldn't be any issue.
