Default Battery voltage

As we all know by now jaguars do not work well with battery's they constantly throw up problems , so a friend has just bought a brand new battery and I took a reading of 12.5 volts from it . It is now on charge (full) overnite . After doing some research it is suggested that the new battery should be fully charged before installing, google suggest new battery should be over 14 volts , I am only a mere plumber. Sudgestions welcome guy on a boat said to me once we have a leak, I shouted man overboard plumbers and children first

When freshly charged you get a "surface charge" (or surface voltage) which you need to dissipate (the web is great for looking stuff up). After that expect about 12.8 or 12.6V, but can be up to 13.2.

Hopefully it was charged with a hefty charger (10A or more).

Mine typically sits at 12.6-12.8v

When I put on a CTEK charger (as I did at 7am this morning) two hours later it had risen to 14.2v, As V8 has said that's a surface charge. When I drive it later for around 40 miles I expect it to drop to around 13v. The voltage reported by my tracker is exactly the same as I get from multimeter.

If any of my batteries don't come up that quickly in a couple of hours then I'd consider scrapping it if a 'recon charge' doesn't restore its responsiveness.

New battery was charged over nite after giving a reading of 12.5v . Charger said Full and I read with multimeter 14.2v this is before installation, New battery now fitted and we did not to have to reset radio or windows , Only message that popped up was press foot on brake and apply hand brake, he took for a run and all is well shall tell him to put on ctek over nite ohh I better take a reading before hand after coffee

Hi,
Being a newby Jaguar owner I was quite concerned after reading about the battery problems/issues particularly after cars being stored, so I thought to share my recent experience.
I stored my MY06 XK convertible for 103 days during New Zealand's late spring/early summer with no CETEK, start ups etc. The battery voltage read at the extended posts in the boot/trunk 11.7V with lid open, so I did not attempt to start the car. I have a 12AmpHour battery booster/jumpstarter that read 13.6V open circuit. After connecting to the extended posts for about 7-8 minutes the "combined voltage" was 12.1V. The car then started first time!
I was very pleased with that as there was no power at the storage facility.

At 12.1 V on you battery and after a charge you will soon see battery gremlins . See if it will take a full charge and if not you need a new battery.
