Default Best Battery for an XKR

Hi Forum,
I'm having those electrical issues that come from a battery not having a full charge and need to buy a new one. What do you guys recommend would be the best battery for our cars? Please keep in mind I'm in sunny AZ, where the temperature is mostly 100+. Thanks Forum!

AGM

If you have pep-boys (not the all male review) the autoshop. They have 4 year free replacement. Go in at 3.5 years.

Or try Costco, they have no hassle 3 year replacement on the standard battery. Maybe longer on AGM

My battery is seven years old and still working.
I will go for EXIDE EK950 AGM 12V 95AH, 850A or Tudor Stop&Start Agm 95 Ah TK950.

Yeah, mine lasted very nearly six years exactly. I got a Super Start Premium from O'Reilly as the replacement.

Hi CeeJay, I'll look at this and pick one up today.....our cars get gremlins if the don't have a full charge....sort of like me, if I can't get an immediate dose of caffeine in the morning.

Second Pep Boys, they always have a significant discount, like 30%, if you order online. If you're military, you can wheedle another 10% off. I got a Bosch group 49 AGM a couple months ago for about $145.

Johnson Controls makes about 90% of the batteries available in the US. It does not matter where you bought it or whose name is on the label - Johnson Controls made it, including Optima.

That being said I love Walmart for batteries. They are cheap and they know the batteries never last the free replacement period in Arizona. Bring it back in 2 1/2 years and they give you a new one - no questions asked. They don't even test them.

You can spend twice as much someplace else for the same Johnson Controls battery without Walmart's name on it and it will still only last 2 1/2 years or so in our heat.

I disconnect, reconnect, and then reset everything. It seems like a bigger pain to try the hot swap without shorting anything out.

This Forum is now 10 years old and every question about batteries has already been asked and answered. No need to re-invent the wheel.

This thread on battery replacement has had over 95,000 views: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...acement-54583/

Electrical gremlins can be prevented by using a battery maintainer to keep your battery fully charged. I have a BatteryMINDer brand maintainer on my XKR and a CTEK MUS4.3 on my XJ and am pleased with both. Both are available on Amazon. I prefer the CTEK because it is newer and has more features. This thread about CTEK installation has had over 53,000 views: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lation-107738/

Picked up a battery at Pep Boys, the Bosch platinum series, Part #: 49-850BAGM. Got it for around $175 after taxes. That was the easy part. The stupid part was letting them install it. I guess it depends on which store you go to. I went to the one on 63RD ave and Bell Rd in Glendale AZ and NEVER AGAIN will I allow them to touch my car!! Not only did they take a full 2 hours to change the battery, they made my rear window/top issue worse. And, they forgot the cover in the trunk for the top, the one where if its not secure, your top can't retract. As I was driving off, I decided to put the top down and what do you know, it wouldn't budge. I got out and checked the trunk and the cover is missing! I called the manager who called the mechanic and the mechanic is swearing up and down that nothing is missing. Just as I'm about to blow a fuse, another mechanic takes a look and tells the guy who did my battery to look again, there's a piece missing...Guess what, in the trash, there's my cover! I'm not a kid nor a violent man, but that's a close as I've come in many years to knocking someone out....I'm glad with age comes self control,( usually). If any forum member resides in AZ, it's OK to buy parts from that store, they're courteous and good prices, but DON'T EVER LET THEM WORK ON YOUR CAR!!!! Otherwise your "self control" will more than likely be tested.

Told you in post number 2. They are former strippers who went back to vocational school.
Here is how you get them back. 3.5 years from now, run the battery flat about 5 times, take it back and get the freshest one you can find on the shelf. This is assuming they are still around then.

Maybe a dumb question at this point, but, did they make sure the new battery was fully charged before they installed it?
