Bluetooth, including part numbers and experiment

Thanks Ralph. If I get out for a decent drive at the weekend I'll have a look and see if it ever appears on the car.
It sounds like Google have accepted that there are issues with the Bluetooth stack in Marshmallow and there's a fix due in the next monthly update, hopefully this will improve matters further for Android users.

As far as I know, no XK/XKR supports audio streaming over Bluetooth. If I had to guess, I'd say the module is basically just an interface between the car infotainment system and a pretty much off-the-shelf bluetooth radio adapter so the different versions will just contain more up-to-date bluetooth radio adapters as they progressed.
I managed to make a call successfully this morning using my new one, but it did drop connection to the phone as I parked up at work. It did reconnect fine however. Once I'm more comfortable that this module is going to work OK going forward I may open up the old one just to satisfy curiosity. Bit of me hopes we'll get lucky and discover that we'll find the bluetooth module is removable (say USB or PCI interface) and could be swapped out but I won't hold my breath.
Ralph, can you remember - when you get a new phone or got your car (whichever came last), did it take very long for the phone book to transfer to the car?

I opened my old module after I fitted the replacement, it's just one board with a chip soldered into the board itself, nothing removable.

Thanks. This thread was very helpful and especially your post with the part numbers. I just installed the latest version in my 2007 XK and all works normally just like you reported. I too have the battery indicator and the signal strength indicator. But I too have the phone book download issue with my Iphone 5. Did you ever figure out anything more about the phone book download?

Just wondering if the Bluetooth module from a 2013 XJ would fit in an X150 and be fully functional.
My 2013 XJ has Bluetooth music streaming, has never dropped a call, and my phonebook downloaded perfectly. I'm reluctant to upgrade my old Samsung Galaxy S3 because everything works in my XJ and XKR. I don't need Bluetooth music streaming in my XKR because I use my old iPod solely for music.

Weird.
Maybe I just lucked-out somehow.
Tangent..... My wife's Lexus also imports her contact's picture and displays that picture in-call on the screen. Wish mine did.

Sprint DOES use proprietary phones, no SIM cards. Probably more hardware/firmware differences also. Definitely software differences.
It'd be interesting to try each others' phones on the others' car, see what happens.........
Maybe next time I'm in Oceanside?

Let me know if/when you're around these parts we can grab a bite or beer
I may be around you but likely with my Honda doing a roadtrip to Aspen in June.
I'll take a look at the phone and how it interacts wtih my M8 probably this weekend but was pretty sure it did not want to load the phone book even when I tried... seems others had the same issue

I collated information from several sources and determined the following mapping for XK-series VIN numbers to bluetooth module (both Jag and OEM) part numbers:
To B07046: C2P11342
B07047 to B15111: C2P12058
B15112 to B27986: C2P14821 (6w83-10D893-AG) (MY CAR)
B27987 to B32752: C2P17620 (9W83-10D893-AA)
from B32753 until some time in 2012/2013: C2P20239 (9W83-10D893-AB)
At least B34872 to B36862 has 9W83-10D893-AB
B49386 (2013 xk) has 9W83-10F845-AA)
latest?: 9W83-10F845-AA

Funny thing is that 9W83-10F845-AA does not show up at all in the Jaguar parts lists... yet there they are on eBay and so on...
Another interesting thing is that the Land Rover bluetooth modules for Discovery 3&4 (LR3/LR4), Range Rover Sport, and L322 Vogue, all have the 10F845 middle part number. Whereas the XF, LR2 and XK had 10D893
The modules in the X150 XK are not shared with any other JLR vehicles based on the part numbers. But that doesn't mean that others won't work. Someone will have to be a guinea pig to find out though...

Basically, no. Once yesterday the Names label was not grayed out but when I selected it there were no entries. My Iphone 5 is 3 years old and my wife just switched to an Iphone 6. When she gets back into town, I'm going to try hers out.

You are still having issues? Every iPhone from the 3 through the 6S (now) has worked just fine in the 2008 XKR. Also, from 2010 on the CANbus network was changed, so a new headunit is likely not compatible.

Some good news on this subject gentlemen!!!
We are now able to update an old bluetooth module to the latest software revision.
This means if you have an old 2007/2008 module, we can update it to the latest 2012 onward software which gives you compatibility with the newer phones, proper working address book, battery and cellular reception indication.
It's a bit of a hack to make it work, so probably the best thing is we provide the modules on an exchange basis.
Modules for the X150 XK, X250 XF and L359 LR2/Freelander2 can be done on an exchange basis. Modules for the L319/L320/L322 Disco/RRS/FFRR need to be done in the car.
If anyone wants an updated module, send me a PM.
