Default Brake options-2012 XKR

Hi everyone
does anyone know who the brake disc/pad oem manufacturer was in the 2012 model year?
also, anyone bought non-jaguar/oem discs/pads and had good experience?
thanks

All 5.0 XKRs with cast iron discs (not the GT) have the 380mm/376mm discs with ATE calipers - known as Jaguar High-Performance brakes (twin piston floating calipers on the fronts). I have seen these mistakenly listed as Alcon type. My feeling is that the Jaguar discs are from ATE too. The box says made in Germany and the look is typical ATE but I would not bet money on it

I would be tempted to buy Jaguar or ATE. Out here, there are a few fewer options for these discs but out of the bigger guys, you could consider:

Rear discs (Jaguar C2D3792)
- ATE: 24.0126-0174.1
- Bosch: 0 986 479 756
- TRW: DF6654S

There seems to be only small differences in friction grades between the normal rear pad offerings but the OE ATE pads are the highest of the standard pads:
ATE 13.0460-7255.2 (FF)
Redstuff has the same rating but I'm still not sure I like them except for the slightly less dark dust. Cold bite on my S-Type is poor but I have not yet compared the Jaguar/Jurid ones (GG).

I'm not as familiar with the XKR-S but I believe that they may have been fitted with different pads from the factory - part no: C2P25493.
Apparently these are ATE too but have a spring mounting on the back and may be a different compound.

Front pads are a different matter though. There seems to be no road pads available with the friction rating of the original Jurid pads (both XKR and S-Type/XJ pads). Gone back to OE pads (GG) on my FIAT and they are noticably better than the ATE (FF) ones I had before. The car manufacturers seem to pick better quality where it matters, so I will be swapping back to Jaguar/Jurid pads on the front of my Jaguars when I have the time. Buying an old house that needs work is not a good move for one who would rather tinker with cars.

Taken from another forum.

Thanks Jim- my subsequent research looking at the Apec website suggests its ATE.

I went for the EBC redstuff pads purely as have black diamond cut vortex alloys and previous good experience with them, 2yrs later and the minimal brake dust still rinses off with a garden hose.

Also as I have a three cars I only do 5k miles per year in my XKR

At the same time I went for upgraded discs from Wortec which saved me 44lbs of unsprung weight over stock, perhaps overkill but they look mighty purdy!

2nd UK MOT done this month and the inspector advised there was no discernible wear on either pads or discs and asked me if I'd just had them fitted, he was surprised when I shared they were 10k miles old. That said I do you use atom-mac on my discs, which does tend to keep them sparkly

atom-mac - Anti-Corrosion - Bilt Hamber

Well, my brakes were not as pretty as @MarkyUK ’s.
I made the mistake once of not going OEM. In those days I was driving the car more frequently and for longer distances. My experience, the slotted, drilled disks warped. The pads didn’t grab as well as the OEM setup... but the wheels had less brake dust.
Happy now as its back the way it should be.

Guy, don't worry no ones are! In fact when I had them done at my busy Indy other customers were coming up to admire them with favourable comments (that I can't repeat on this forum)

I do understand that early drilled/slotted rotors were plagued with issues, but never had issues with my EBC's on my old X100, they lasted for over 8yrs. Wortec were so confident these would last they gave me a written 10yr guarantee and that included track use (which I won't do). To my knowledge mine is the only X150 with them fitted, although they are popular on F-Types and the odd XFR.

Jaguar F type
