Brakes and Butterflys
"If a butterfly flaps its wings", you probably know the rest. (chaos theory).
I have replaced my front brake rotors three times within 30K miles. I could never measure any significant runout but of course there is some brake pad material build up.
The last set went on @ 8k miles ago, I started to feel a very slight pulse @ 3k miles ago and was planning on replacing again but with a different brand etc. Prior to a road trip I had two of my wheels straightened and refinished. Spinning them on my car I couldn’t see any problems but since I was primarily getting them refinished I asked that they check if they were true. The front wheel was ‘out’ and straightened. I inquired how much it was ‘out’ and the reply was minimal but more than factory specs.
So fast forward to me thinking about the jaguar rather than politics and I had an aha moment. There is not any pulsing at all when I hit the brakes…none.
I do believe that ‘everything affects everything’ in the world and especially with my Jaguar. The ever so slight brake material build up which is normal was just enough with the bent wheel that in certain situations of brake application that action set up cascading consequences (the stronger pulsing and steering wheel shake.
This effect is also probably why we have so many strange electronic issues with these vehicles.
YMMV
