Default Can I remove this trim piece without removing the dash?

Does anyone know if this trim piece can be removed without uninstalling the entire dash?

I've got a rattle from this piece due to a broken tab, and I'm trying to replace it. Really hoping I don't have to pull the dash to access it.

Anyone have experience with this?

Also, if anyone has access to a salvage car and can sell me one in charcoal, I'll owe you big-time. It's no longer produced, and most salvage yards throw this away since nobody is crazy enough to replace it.

Trying to visualize where that is. Under the steering column?

It wraps around behind the centre console and neatly covers the spaces between the carpet and side of the glove box. Mine was really stuck when I was removing the glove box and broke it on one side. Found out it’s bolted in and you need to take apart a lot of the fascia. So it’s on my eventual to-do list.

PS I’m pretty sure it fits in top of the dashboard rather than behind the dash.

LJRXKR is correct. It's a beauty panel that hides openings on both sides of the dash console.

It sits behind the infotainment system, and also behind the dash. It almost seems like it needs to be mounted while the dash is out of the car, but I'm hoping not.

I've been reaching out to salvage yards on eBay without luck. They all throw this piece away because it's a piece nobody buys.

Once you remove it, can't you just replace/fix the broken tab?

Well it's plastic that's disintegrated into tiny pieces, so no.

I'm familiar with the process and have Solidworks and a printer that can handle ASA, but good part to scan and import. I have a broken piece, missing pieces, and the rest is stuck inside the car behind the dash. I can't have the car down for that much time... I need a good part to reinstall immediately after removing the bad one.

If someone has this part and a scanner and is willing to scan it and send the file, I can print it.

You can find this part on eBay as "10-15 Jaguar XK XKR 2014 Dash Dashboard Instrument Trim Cover Panel Bracket". It seems to be the same part for all model years. I replaced my dash and I didn't realize this part was broken on the passenger side. I think it goes behind the dash. I bought a part off of eBay and now I have to see if I can cut the part and get it in without lifting the dash or not. I will have to take the glove box out again to get to it, so I haven't attempted it yet.

That did turn up some links, but unfortunately all the parts for sale are broken in some way.

Topix shows it coming out as one piece with the dash. The actual dash removal doesn't look too bad, once the console is out. That's still a bear of a job for a broken tab though.

I think I've messaged 25 different Jaguar dismantlers on eBay, without luck. Jagbits and Welsh is also a dead end.

Part number is C2C28397LEG (Center Molding. Instrument Panel Molding - Black)

If anyone has access to a parts car with this piece, I'd love to know about it.

Another photo of this piece still attached to the dash. Shown from the underside.

Looks like this is impossible to remove without pulling the entire dashboard out of the vehicle.

Mine broke at the mounting point by the glovebox. It crumbled in my hands.

Here are the common failure points. I don't think it's a common source of rattles, though. The glovebox might be the culprit, since there's a mechanism for soft close that commonly fails (also because of brittle plastic).

I fixed my gb several years back. So you pulled the gb and side panel to see the failure?

I pulled the glove box and saw the broken plastic pieces from the cracked trim piece.

I don't know what side panel you're referring to.

I guess I'll need to look in there and see what the plastic rattle is. Pulling the dash in my situation would lead to redoing the leather and more...this is not going to happen.
