Default Car tracking using Airtag?

Hi, was wondering wot you guys out there use to track your car, if you do, GPS system ob rely on phone signal, sim card, subscription etc. Was reading about the new apple Airtag, tiny, battery lasts about a year, this relies on piggy backing other people iphones etc utilising the apple app findmy, updates not live, slightly delayed and would ob work better in built up areas with more people/phones. Hide one on your car, job done. But so someone cant plant one on you and stalk you, if you are travelling wiv an airtag not registered to you it sends a message to that persons phone, dont know after how long?? (could be the thief) and tells them !! They still got to find it? Also if airtag has not linked to your phone in 8-72 hours (reports vary) the it actually beeps, showing thief where it is, he can then tap it wiv his phone and disable it!!! 🤷‍♂️ Suppose it could work as a car tracker if you acted fast and its only £29 🤔🤔 whats yours thoughts guys???
ps: still use the good old fashioned steering lock aswell

Someone is reading the Daily Mail. I suspect this will only get worse and the use of non Apple trackers just adds to it eve more.

Curiousity kills the cat. Somethings are better left unknown.

Depends if you live/leave your car in a dodgy area. Security is all about layers: Proper insurance, secure area, alarm system, GPS tracker, Steering lock (the club), Automatrics...AirTag. Thieves go for soft targets and pass on items that will likely get them nicked. I used tiles for years in my checked luggage with great success. But they just cannot compete with the Apple system.

The AirTag is $30.....and its not going to be the end all be all in security, but IMHO a great value for another layer of security. A wired GPS unit can be had for another $100ish that sends text messages when started or moved. You can even step it up to a hidden kill switch that shuts off power to the fuel pumps. Every car in Cuba has two or three of them hahaha.

i don't have this concern and so don't use anti-theft devices.

however you may want to consider that since air tags are deliberately used to steal cars: https://www.yrp.ca/en/Modules/News/i...0-91e49aee3bff then the RF reader alone is more useful than the tags themselves.

IMHO the Jag is the MOST restrictive car in regards to FOB. It once locked me out of my car, engine running, key in car! Its the ONLY car, where I carry the key ON ME 100% of the time, even when just for seconds leaving the car with door open. It´s the only car I carry the key on a lanyard on my neck. I do not like this, I think it to be proletarian, but I do use it to prevent lock out.

Update: all set up, (tried last nite but tired n went to bed a bit frustrated 😂) seems good bit of kit but chinese so the broken english instructions bita annoying. Would advise testing/setting up the phone card in another phone, had to dig out an old nokia as the sim card stays full size in the tracker. Via their app/gps part of tracker i can just see where car is at any point, if i want to communicate with the car i just text it or call and hang up, the tracker sends me a text back with a link to google maps (can choose apple) click that and im live tracking, can set up lots of things by texting it, eg set up a say 30 mile fence around your car, if it goes outside of that it texts you, catch boyracer mechanics 😂
Gonna ob hardwire it in and hide according, power consumption is about 0.04 amps, see how i get on with that. All done for £21.99 no contract/fees, will just put another £10 on the card in 6 months or if i need too, earlier if playing too much wiv it😂 it is chinese so cood blow up in a few days, it is fused aswell. If anyone wants exact details/links PM me

I ordered a new F250, the dealer had already installed LoJack for Inventory Management. They charged ME for it. $400. They wouldn't sell me the truck I ordered unless I paid the $400. I would lose my ordered truck and the dealer would sell for a tremendous markup, and I couldn't allow that to happen.
I actually think LoJack is sorta cool. It lowered my insurance $15 per month and I can create a GeoFence to stop it from running if it leaves any area I select. Real Time tracking at all times also.
SO, it's not actually CHEAP, per se, but neither is a Jaguar XK-R.
