Change Your own oil 2007-2009 XKR

Just did mine and my friends 08 and 07 a couple weeks ago. Easy work. 4 screws for the bottom part (I think phillips), then drain plug (not sure on size). Oil filter is in there horizontally. I just used large channel lock pliers to loosen, then hand tightened on. Just make sure to have a large enough container as it has over 7l to give you.

Thanks so much, exactly what I was looking for. The local dealer (130 miles round trip) wants $145.00 + tax to complete the work. I already have the oil filter (K&N HP-1014) and I have a set of race ramps to lift the car. I like doing this kind of stuff, so I will attempt it.
Thanks again for helping me, and I am sure others also.

The 5.0L is a snap. And you don't even get your hands dirty.
I did mine a month or so ago. While I believe there is a drain plug, removing the bottom skirt is much more difficult than doing it from the TOP of the engine (do a quick search). In short, with the suction apparatus (~$80 I think), you suck out the old oil with the tube present under the filler cap. The oil filter is right on top of the engine. It actually was fun - no crawling under the car. Furthermore, the suction apparatus lets you measure the oil so you can put the same amount in (assuming your electronic dipstick read full) and allows you to pour the used oil into a recycling container.

K&N HP-1014 Filter....$10.93 each
Amazon.com: k&n hp-1014: Automotive
Oil: $26.68 for 5 quarts....
Castrol 5W30 Edge Extended Performance with Titanium Synthetic Motor Oil, 5 qt - Walmart.com
Oil: $7.98 per quart
Castrol Edge Extended Performance with Titanium Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil, 1 qt. - Walmart.com
Total Cost: about $45.00 to $50.00 for all the materials...
My local Jiffy Lube will pull the plastic undercarriage, remove and reinstall the new K&N Hp-1014 filter and fill the oil for $32.00 using my Castrol Edge 5W-30 oil and K&N Oil Filter & discard card the old oil.
I can have them place a FilterMag on the new oil filter which I just ordered. Waiting for it to arrive.
FilterMAG SS300, FilterMAG Oil/Fluid Filtration Magnets | FilterMAG
I have already checked with them, and they state this is an easy oil change, no different from any other car for a 2007- 2009 model year. Takes no more than 15-20 minutes of their time. They do not carry the oil filter or oil, so I have to supply my own materials. They will also wash all outside glass, vacuum the interior and check tire pressures.
While some might say, "no, not Jiffy Lube", but realistically the Jaguar 2009 XKR oil change is no different than any other car.
I haven't decided to do it myself or have them do it for me.
DIY: $50.00 v $145.00 + Texas Tax for the Jaguar dealer (located in El Paso, Tx) and 3-4 hour round trip (130 miles) which includes waiting for them to do it.
JL: $82.00 Includes tax. 15 to 20 minutes to do it and a 10 mile roundtrip drive.

Have to do mine shortly, as i have it a year now from dealer, have done all my cars before. Whats the best oil filter and is it better to use a dealer one. I always use Castrol magnatec 5w30 A1, not because its cheaper but seems to burn better and less top up. I used to have a 2005 xkr and used the castrol edge which burned a wee bit so had to top up now and again, switched to magnatec and it never needed a bit. Although the xkr's are prone to burn a bit with erratic driving because of the supercharger.
Anyway i would always use the magnatec,

I had the dealer do my last change as it was included in my CPO coverage. I may do my next change which will be maybe in April next year which will be the yearly service. My dealer charges $120 so looking at the math (8 qts at $8 ea. , filter at $30 ) brings me to around $100 for parts so my question is should I do it or pay $20 for them to do it and get a free car wash and vacuum in the process. ROI looks pretty good.

At $32 for 15-20 minutes of their time, you're paying Jiffy Lube between $96 and $128 per hour for an admittedly easy oil change by an employee who probably earns less than $25 per hour. At that rate, I'd consider doing it myself...but... $32 is no big deal and I don't get my hands dirty or run the risk of skinning my knuckles, so I'll gladly pay the price.

Something wrong with the math! Mobile ! @5.20/qt (WalMart)and $20 OEM filter (my dealer) ADDS UP TO $56.4......... 3 5qt jugs gives 2 oil changes!
However main reasons for DIY is: 1) I enjoy doing it and 2) better yet, I can check front end and engine/transmission areas. If you drive fast you owe it to yourself to monitor the machine!!
But admittedly I am a conservative retired Boeing Engineer (If it's not Boeing I am not going!)
Enjoy your Jag fellows (I have for over 60 years), Adrian

I got Walmart 5W-20 Castrol at $30 for 5 qt jug and $8.50 per quart requiring 3 quarts. So $30+26 + tax is around $60. Filter for the 5.o (Mann) is $30 and I think OEM is $50. So net is $90 best case vs $120 and my dealer does the work. Oh I have to drive 40 miles to get the oil which is not close for me. If I get it at Autozone it's about $10 more.

My K&N Oil Filter (HP-1014) is $10.98 each for 2009 XKR.

I just bought a 5 Qt container of 5w20 Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic for $22.66 and paid $7.98 for the extra qt. at my local Walmart yesterday. It was considered a "rollback" price. My 4.2L engine calls for 6.15 qts.

Rich , good price. I just did an oil change on my Lexus yesterday. Got oil at Autozone and it was $24.50 for a 5 quart jug of DINO oil. I also had to buy 2 quarts (6.4 qt capacity) and they cost $7.50 each. Oil filter from Toyota was $13 . Sounds like you get some better prices out your way. By the way the 5.0L engine takes 7.6 qts and the filter is the insert (canister) type and the cheapest one I find (not the best) lists for $25. All of our full syn. oil here starts at $28 for a 5 qt jug and almost $9 a qt bottle. I guess it's just the difference of location.
As for the difference in 2007 to 2009 models and 2010 and beyond XK/XKR's our models are lower priced for things like the oil changes. We use a regular oil type filter, nothing special like the 5.0L 2010 and beyond.
I tried to get cheaper oil. When I asked the local oil change guys if I could use a high quality Virgin Olive Oil, they stated a good virgin would cost more than a typical quart. Oh, well...I can understand that one.

Whet to local auto factors today for castrol magnatec 5w30 A1 and he said he doesn't stock it anymore, so i got 8 liters of castrol edge 5w30. So back to this type of oil and got a OEM oil filter. The edge is a very light oil compared to the magnatec, but according to the research it is more advanced.

I am sure you are correct. I am located 45 miles north of the US/Mexico border and we are "poor" down here so pricing on most items are lower.
