Exclamation codes P0101 and P0430 ? Any answers

My engine light has been coming on and off on my 07 xkr since i got the car 2 months ago,
OBD11 reader says 2 errors, same every time, even when erasing engine light.
1; P0101 MAF OR VAC A CIRCUIT RANGE/PERFORMANCE
2: P0430 CATALYST EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD (BANK 2)
Has a rough idle when ticking over, up and down and exhaust note has changed not as deep or loud.
The guy i bought the car of is not a jag dealer, but deals in top end cars,,there is a 6 month guarantee and any problems he will sort out.
Problem is he is 3hrs drive from me, so want to be sure of parts needed to fix, If he plugs his fault reading machine he should get same readings, so would be great if he had the nessesary parts. Would any member have had these faults and what was the fix/parts,
Car drives fine, no lack of power, no carbon build up on tail pipes, put down my shoe and power all the time.
Would i be doing any damage with these issues ?
Have another thread about cleaning trottle body, but was advised not too.

I would say that the PO430 can be expensive, likely requiring the replacement of the catalytic converter. If your country allows aftermarket cats to be installed it may be the solution. Here, in California only factory converters may be installed and those cost an arm and a leg.

Remember, codes are clues, not guaranteed repair solutions.

Here are the list of possible actions for P0101:
· Check air cleaner element is free from restriction
· Check for leak from air intake system, rectify as necessary
· Ensure the engine breather system is correctly installed and in serviceable condition
· Carry out any pinpoint tests associated with this DTC using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system
· Install a new MAF sensor as necessary.

I would say clear up P0101 and see if P0430 clears up as a result also. Do not delay excessively, as the improper fuel mix can damage your catalytic converter if it has not already.

I noted your location. Here in the US I know manufactures carry a much longer warranty on emission systems. I'll ask others here to clarify the precise timeline, but I think cats are covered for something like 7 years.

thanks everybody for yur replies, good info whitexkr, car was fitted with new k/n filters so should be ok, the element and breather any steps to that. Have ordered cd/workshop manual from ebay.
Phoned jaguar uk and cats have 3 year warrenty here, so thats out. There are 2 maf sensors, one each side, £99.00 plus vat each, could be either, a cat costs around £900.00
I'm a bit puzzled how the car is going so well with these errors, just irratic idle on occation and change in exhaust note!
On my old xk8 04 i sprayed maf sensor with maf cleener and cleaned trottle body with great results,,as i said previous was advised not to on my xkr, where are the sensors located, any pictures.

Just FYI, people on this forum had issues with MAF sensor alarms after fitting non-factory air filters. Apparently the Jag is very sensitive to the amount of airflow differences between the two intakes and any small variable (like the degree of oiling of the K&N filters) could set it off.

If you look back at some of Brutal's posts on the subject of air cleaners for the XK, he states that they are sold in matched pairs and is adamant that the matching is required.

well its a wet day so took off my wheels and liners and took out filters, both same part numbers and jag stamp, spotless, like new. Was able to view up towards sensors and the round mesh piece protecting each sensor is clean and ok. When each filter holder is pulled out the filter sits in another tray, one fits into the other. But it seems on one side of mine the tray to hold the filter is missing, it just fits in th holder, don't know if this effects anything.
Engine light came on again after erasing, same codes and erratic idle, sounds like car is looking for more air or perhaps stall.

talked to dealer today and car going in on thursday to see what happening with code issues, told him maybe cats gone but he said it would be unlikely. Anyway it's under warrenty so i told him i don't want it back till sorted. Went for a good drive this weekend and gave it a good hard spin, drove round city a bit , 1st and 2nd gear spirts with plenty of noise. Has used 1litre of oil in 1000miles wud that be normal, good hard driving. Anyway will have to get this idle issue sorted, but powerwise it seems ok. Engine light on still with same codes.

That seems like a lot of oil.

It does. Tell the garage as it is perhaps part of the cause of what's wrong.

got my car back from dealer today after new cat and o2 sensor fitted. My exhaust roar has also returned, . All codes off, but then after 2hrs drive engine light on. Checked it with reader and one code returning P0101 maf/vac sensor. Breather filter is new so looks like a new maf sensor is needed. Put new plugs in too, now no idle issues. Will have to get soon , don't want another bad cat.
Turns out bank 2 cat gone, to clear up for anyone, if your at the front of yur car looking towards the windscreen,
bank 1 is on yur left side , bank 2 is on yur right side.

cats aren't covered as it is 07, cats are covered here for just 3 years. Cat cost £650.00 + vat and O2 sensor £149.00

Speaking of codes, does anyone have a comprehensive list of codes for the alloy body XKR's, or suggestion where to look them up? I was just looking for a list yesterday and have not found anything worthwhile.

M6XKR if you go onto ebay and buy the xk150 workshop manual on cd it gives all code information and 4000 pages of details on service, electrical and body parts info. Easy to use.
As for my engine light returning i erased message and it has not returned, here's hoping.
