Why such boring colours? Why did Jaguar drop Salsa Red?

All the new colours are silver black or grey. Yawn.

Salsa Red was exchanged for Italian Racing Red here in the States. We still have a red. And they've switched the super dark Botanical Green for a slightly lighter British Green Metallic.

I agree, but they are what people seem to buy.
Just look around next time you're on the motorway. It's like being in a black & white film!

Nobody has any imagination any more, they seem to buy the black/white/silver cars due to their resale value.
Even the Police use silver cars now!

(No offence to anybody with a black/white/silver car of course )

In December I went to Cars.com and looked at the XK convertibles for 2007 and 2008. There were 206 of them. I then looked at the colors and found the following:

Color # %

  • black 58 - 28%
  • silver 30 - 15%
  • indigo 22 - 11%
  • grey 21 - 10%
  • red 19 - 9%
  • green 17 - 8%
  • white 14 - 7%
  • light blue 8 - 4%
  • dark red 7 - 3%
  • gold 5 - 2%
  • seafrost 3 - 1%
  • beige 2 - 1%

total 206

Is it possible to order a colour? Salsa for example. The Italian Racing Red is not good. I had a 1995 XJR in this or near as possible years ago. I dont want another black.

Love my Salsa Red XKR, really stands out in my area where you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Black Audi or Mercedes.

I agree.

Theres a Red XK-RS video on Youtube and it looks the DGSBLX. In 15 or so cars that I've had, there have been only 3 that have not been Black/ Silver. Of course, Silver is the lazy man's colour and Black the hardest work (nothing better than a shiny black car/ nothing worse than a dirty black car).

Given the choice, I would've gone Silver (prob) after taking a LONG hard think about White; but due to the deal I got, it was "any colour Sir would like as long as its black".

Not a fan of red cars. There is only one that works for me, the mid 1970s 308GTB. That XKR in the Clarkson vid is red and it does not quite work for me.

I used to be into white cars, but many modern designs have huge slab sides and look awful in white. There is one XK near me in a sort of pearl white and it is OK, but the gray/silver shows off the curves better IMHO.

Black has the problems as described by Haggis. My dealer says he cannot sell the Frost Blue XKs to the degree that his used buyer avoids them like the plague. I don't get that at all.

Haggis and your DGSBLX, .

I wish they did a green that mimic's James Bond's green XK. I saw that car in person and it looks amazing. I know that car had a special expensive paint, but could be done almost exact for a lot less.

What's worse than the exterior colors is the interior color choices of modern Jag's. What happened to burgundy and blue leather? I miss both.

TD;

BEIGE????

Who the heck buys a beige car that is above ground?

Have had many red cars over the years, only one black car, pain in the butt to keep looking sharp shows every spec of dust, the ISMW insisted on yellow for the MINI S and I have to say it has grown on me....but it is about the only yellow that works on cars, had green, gold, silver, and white, but am very happy to have my first blue car.

Then again XK's look good in every color.

cheers,

jj

cheers,

jj

In the glass blowing business they say "if you can't make it good, make it blue".

I think there is an interesting issue for Jaguar here. The demographic must be a conundrum; their classic audience (in generalist terms) would probably subscribe to BRG/ Maroon/ Navy etc etc, but there's a different demographic for XK/ R/ Rs i think. Also, I think it depends on whats being done with the car, that red (Davewhitt) is classic understated elegance IMHO but the Red Rs in Monaco is a shouty loud Red with the graphite wheels; it roars aggro race car IMO (i hope they are different and its not just the light).

My car - I will (probably) 'black it out' at some point for fun. Black wheels, black out the grilles and window trims and it will look completely different; much more GT2 than GT.

Beige - WTF?

That XKR-S is in "Ticket me" red. With that colour you find speeding tickets under the wipers when you come out of the store to drive home. The Salsa red is better, but still a bit red for me. The screaming blue on that other XKR-S looks like it came from a clown's paint set.

Actually -- I'm glad to see bright and vibrant colors on the palette. If I'd have ordered a new one, I would've gone with either red or blue. I like them.
