Note: I only want a coupe, I hate convertibles.
I am always amazed that others try to steer people in different direction as they search for a specific car. I am assuming you have a list of things that you want like , coupe , XKR-S , MY ? , options , ext. color , int. color and wheel size/type and so on. Then what are your priorities and a secondary set of differences that you would accept. As an example here was a sample of my list: Convertible , BRG (IRR , Blue) , 2012 (back up cam.) , XKR , 20" wheels . SO it was a short list and I didn't care about int. color but I also wanted under 10K miles and a CPO car. Took me 6 months but got almost (IRR) what I wanted.

Interesting dilemma you have. F-Type handles better than XKR/R-S but has zero trunk space for even a short weekend trip. And where do you put those golf clubs??

Have you driven the 2013 Mercedes SL550? (0-60 4.0 seconds, USD$45k) I am trying to decide between the SL or the XKR. The main attractions of the SL for me are the retractable hardtop and higher cabin tech/luxury. Also the SL may be more reliable (without the dreaded ABC).

Thing is, break a Mercedes and pay a billion dollars for a part.

Jaguar parts are not cheap compared to a Chebbby, but less than any Merc.
Of course, I just spent ten minutes on RockAuto trying to compare, but I couldn't find two similar available parts. Therefore, I have no data to back up my claim.

I really wanted to like the F-type. Proceeded to test drive all 3 engine variations and the only one I liked was the V8. Still, despite a number of trips to the dealer that shape failed to grow on me. The only view of the car that my wife and I liked was the rear-view. Also, at 6" and a trim 185 lbs I felt cramped in the car (coupe).

Following one of our visits to the dealer to check out the F-type I sat in an XKR on their lot and felt "home" in that car. Exterior was better looking, interior was better looking, more spacious... we got the XKR.

I'll disagree a fraction. I had the XKR and could fit in 3 cases of sparkling, a carton of beer, and some room for nibblies. I have the F Type coupe and with the spare out (which everyone does) I can fit in 2 cases of sparkling, a third out of the box, a carton of beer, and some room for nibblies. I figure I've lost maybe a cubic foot in the back. There is heaps of room for luggage for a weekend trip but maybe not for a 2 week trip for 2. There was a recent thread in the f type forum about getting golf clubs in.

But then there is no room behind the seats.

Personally I'd get an XKR-S if it was my first Jag, and it was cheaper. Awesome, rare car with virtually no compromise to be made, unless you are obsessed with tech.

But think how much more you could have fit in the XKR if you'd taken it's spare out. Gotta compare apples to apples!

Hi,
Thanks for the great responses thus far. Just to address something.

https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...7736/overview/ <-- this car is the XKRS Blue, I want black. Also its 2012 with 43,000 km while the one i listed is has 1300, and still has a manufacture warranty. Biggest knock is one is in America, id have pay all things to bring it to Canada. Which would put the price way over the 2014.

I really want a all black XKRS, would love red interior like the white bmws have but I can do with all black interior.. In terms of TECH all cars have a TERRIBLE tech theyre so behind. But it's a shame the 2014 XKR-S doesn't even have blue tooth music streaming.

Could I get some more information about the reliablity of the XKR-S and cost for repairs.. I'm going from Japanese Acura TL type s.. which is reliable as it gets really.

True, but the XKR spare is under floor, the F type is on the floor which is why you have to take it out to get stuff in. But yes, the XK has far less compromise as your only car or a daily driver, for sure. It is just that the F Type is much less of a compromise than I thought it would be.

Back to the OP, I agree the XKRS looks great in black. The black interior is beautiful in the flesh especially with the highlights. Cant comment on XKRS reliability, but I had no problems with my XKR which I sold at 60,000km and 5 years old, save for a active headlamp module.

I would agree tbh, here is one i fell in love about a month ago.. To gauge a fair price market I looked at all the XKRS on sale in the UK as well.

I'm bias as I like the color but I'm not a fan of the black wheels.

It's easier to change the wheels than the paint color.

Very few if any similar GT's have a sunroof... Maybe just 911. Aston and Maserati do not have them on their current coupes

My bet is that a good body or restoration shop could install a sunroof. But based on the area you would need to use an exterior slider instead of one the buries into the headliner. Due to the low volume of these cars I wonder if anyone had has this done. Most likely not.

It would be an atrocity to put a sunroof on this kind of car IMO.

The F Type is not a GT and does roof slide back?
