If you take a look at the sales brochures in the stickies at the top of this forum, for 2009 you’ll find that the XKR had ‘aluminum’ colored grills as standard, and the XK had ‘grills’ as standard, so I’m assuming that black was the color for the XK that year, and there wasn’t an option.

I agree. On a silver (or light color) car, a black grille would look better. It's that contrast that shows the shape.

I'm a huge fan of the chrome grill - it simply smashes it with any body color, IMO!

Question: Do the notches in the grill line up exactly with the tabs on the bumper cover, or is there some "twist" required. TIA

the cover has numerous alignment posts which align with the matching tabs on the grilles. Metal retaining clips then hold them in place.

Here's the new grille installed. I bought a new grille in silver, and upon seeing it, I thought it was too silver and looked a little cheap. So, I got a rattle can of metallic dark gray and gave it a slight misting of the gray to tone down the silver. I think the result is good. It's exactly what I was looking for - not too bright to stand out and distract your eyes, but light enough to show the shape and lines of the front.
Let me know what you think.
If anyone is wanting a factory black grille (no cracks, breaks or missing tabs) I have it listed in the marketplace.
Cheers.

Looks good - what was the price and was it easily available?

Thanks. I bought it from a seller on Fleabay for $250 (a little pricey, I thought). But it was brand new, and a genuine OEM Jaguar part.

I forgot to mention one other thing regarding fitment: The matching slots in the grille that go over the tabs were just ever-so-slightly too small. Width of the slots was exact, but the "height" of the slots needed a little filing to go over the tabs. No big deal, and as you mention, the retaining clips are what holds it in place.

I have an Indigo 07 XKR w/ silver grille. Pretty basic. Your color choice works very well. Light enough but dark enough. Pulling the grille is a must do?

Thanks. If by pulling the grille you mean, can it be painted in the car, I think that would not produce a clean result. There are things immediately behind the grille that would also get spray painted if you tried to paint it and leave the grille in place. I removed the bumper cover......simple, but time consuming with a bunch of screws/fasteners.
