Default A couple new ownership hang ups.

Coming into the ownership of an XK on Friday, I'm in love, but there were two hang ups, one, the glove box lock is missing, and two, the passengers seat doesn't return all the way to the upright position. I can't seem to find a part number for a new lock cylinder and the button itself costs around $400. Anyone had a similar issue or know a work around? as far as the seat goes I know XK8s sometimes required recalibration at a dealer or disconnecting the battery, but the seat motor could sometimes be jumped. Anyone have any experience with this one either? Looking forward to being behind the wheel of this rolling sculpture every day.

A couple of owners on this forum have had seat position issues, and were resolved by dealer recalibration. The lock might be found at one of the dismantlers that sell XK parts.

Check battery voltage. When I picked my 2007 XK up, I had a handful of electrical gremlins: passenger seat inoperable, steering wheel won’t telescope, etc... My battery was low and a replacement resolved my issues.

It seems the battery is the Genesis of all electrical problems on this car.

I thought you can lock the glove box with a code in valet mode on the nav screen?

While i have not had an XK glove box latch apart, on other cars the lock cylinder allows or prevents something from pushing the door release. If the lock cylinder is missing you should be able to push something into the opening that will release the latch.

I would start with Jaguar Heaven in Stockton. Then look on ebay for anyone dismantling an XK and ask about the lock cylinder.

If you can open the trunk without the key i don't think the valet mode is actuated.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said. I’d start with a flashlight and a screwdriver, and poke around in there.

Would this work? I have not looked at the lock on the glovebox, so maybe someone who knows could maybe chime in. this maybe for an older vehicle.

Here is a tan glovebox that you could possibly get a key made for? I don't know...

First choice won't work, it is too old, second choice looks like a winner for Dymaxxion. The price isn't bad and a locksmith should be able to re-pin (or wafer) the lock core to match his keys.

If he's lucky, maybe he'll find the original lock cylinder inside the glove box, once he gets it open (need to open it to remove it).

One more thing guys, the black plastic cap panels in front of the top cover panel, does anyone know what these are actually called or have a part number for them? I'm missing the passengers side one.

A picture would help, so we don’t have to guess what it is that you specifically need.

Regarding your missing glove box lock; there is a dismantler in your backyard by the name of Pacific Motors. They advertise on Ebay and some other sites. You should be able to locate them fairly easily and they may be able to solve the glove box problem as well as any other missing parts. Good luck.
