Default A couple of questions after 3 months of ownership

Loving the car. I do have a couple of questions, appreciate any help.

1) The front parking sensor only seems to work if I cycle the transmission through N. Is that normal?
2) The car behaves more like it's turbocharged. Big whoosh of power at 5000 rpm. Linear right up to that. Is that normal?

As for #1, the proximity sensors do not activate unless you either put the car in Reverse first or manually push the button on the dash. Somewhat troublesome when you are going forward into a parking space with a curb. Some argue it is necessary so that you do not have it chirping in slow traffic, but my other cars have never had a problem with that.
For number #2, I have no answer.

For my R the sound comes on without engaging reverse or neutral. As for my Range Rover Sport I had to take it to the dealer to get the patch that enables the sensor proximity. Overall it hasnt come on during traffic in either the R or the Range.

The front proximity sensors are only active if:

- You press the button
or
- You shifted in R first

Maybe it would help if you say which engine you have?

OP’s signature indicates an R.

Thank you for this. It's in my signature. R model, 5.0 litre V8.

You can put the front parking sensors in "always on mode" via the dash menu (not the sat nav), at least this works for German versions of the car.

In this case they switch on if you are driving below a certain speed. It's mentioned in the manual.

I have this activated since beginning and no issues also in traffic jam etc. if you keep normal distance to the car in front of you, and should it come on you can always mute the tone via sat nav screen when the parking indicator pops up.

Thanks. The signature does not show when I use my smartphone.

The power delivery experience I have with my R is that it is very linear all the way to the redline, with no noticeable "jump" in increase or decrease anywhere in the power band.

Your experience seems a bit "out of normal". Are you shure it has not been modded in any way (engine management wise")?

Agree with Arne on this. The dyno charts that I've seen seem to support this as well.

Dynos are always run at full throttle. Smooth power curves indicate smooth increase in power as the rpm increases. The power curve in no way represents throttle response. That said, notchy throttle response, particularly as you transition through fixed rpm ranges is not something you should be experiencing on an OEM tune, but does indeed manifest itself with highly tweaked tunes. A good tuner will sort that issue out with you. Since the OP's car has not been tuned, I suspect something is awry.

langjag, I suggest you borrow a dealer demo for a short test ride to see if it is the same or different.

Thank you all again. I've been in touch with Stuart and am up shortly to have a tune and supercharger belt. Hoping it sharpens the throttle response, and smooths out the torque.

Unhinged. Not sure I understand, OP indicates linear power response to 5000 rpm then big woosh of power. If there is an issue that creates this type of experience wouldn't you see it on a dyno also as a spike of some kind?

No big whoosh. Its a very linear engine, that’s the whole point of a Suoercharger. I would have it looked at if you are finding power spiky.

I assumed that the OP was gradually increasing throttle as he was going through 5k rpm. Of course, I could be assuming wrong. If this "whoosh" occurs during a full throttle launch, then one would indeed see it on a dyno chart.

What does this always on mode selection look like?

Here is the translation from German car manual, for whatever reasons I cannot access the English version on the Jaguar homepage to just post the link to the right topic:

----
To activate the parking aid manually, press the parking aid switch (1). The button lights up when the parking aid is activated. Press the button (1) again to deactivate the system. The LED goes out.

The parking aid is also activated if the following conditions are met:

For automatic transmissions, the neutral position (N) is selected.

For manual transmission, reverse gear (R) is selected.

The parking aid can be set to be automatically activated in the following situations:

The vehicle speed drops below 10 km / h (6 mph).

With automatic transmission, the driving position (D) is selected.

At the transition from idle to reverse (R) and back again at vehicles with manual transmission.

To activate the automatic function, touch the Settings icon to access the PARKING AID SETTINGS pop-up menu. Select the Automatic PDC ON option.
----

For my car MY 2018 this is via the Dash Menu.
I'm just not sure if the car needs to be on ignition or fully running to access this function.
Can't check unfortunatly as I'm traveling.
