Default Coventry Wheels for Jaguar

I am considering making a change on my 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition Convert wheels.

Is any one familiar with Coventry Wheels?

I understand these wheels are made specifically for the Jaguar brand.

I am considering the Coventry Hornet Hyper Silver w Chrome Lip.

20 x 8.5".....Bolt 5 x 4.25"....Offset +42mm...Centerbore 63.4MM...1.16" chrome lip

I am not sure about the backspacing....does anyone have any idea on suggested backspacing?

These are cast aluminum, one piece wheels. They also have the Whitley Style.

Which do you prefer? Hornet 5 Spoke or Whitley Multi Spoke Wheel

Any input would be helpful before making the leap.

Me, too.

I prefer the Whitley, as shown on the coupe from the Coventry Wheels gallery:

The Hornet just reminds me of the 5-spoke American Racing mag wheels of the '60s, which were very popular on American muscle cars (and still are). Just too boy racer for my taste.

In my opinion, the Whitley is a more sophisticated design that fits with the overal design of the 2009 XKR Portfolio. The above picture doesn't do justice for the Whitley design since you can't see the details of the (fake) rivets or the width of the front and rear wheel lips. It's a one-piece cast wheel, with a 2-piece look. The chrome lip goes well with the other chrome accents on the car.

I don't know how to put pics on this site with my iPhone or I'd post a few pics of the wheels I'm talking about!

great minds think alike - I recently asked the same question on the XK8/R section as I am looking at the Whitley's. There are a few forum members sporting hornets and a few with whitley's. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...itleys-106748/

I tend to agree with Stuart S on the hornets - yes they look nice but too aggressive for me.

So far the Coventry Whitley wheels are the lead in style here.

After seeing a few other Jag's with the Whitley wheel, I have to agree.

I am looking at the 20 x 8.5 for the front and the 20 x 10 on the rear.

I just need to make sur the filtment is correct.

For those that own the Coventry Whitley already, where did you buy them?

Local or on-line?

How are the wheels standing up?

Do you know if they are PVD vs Chromed?

Thanks for the input guys. I want to be 100% sure of all feedback from you before placing an order.

Default Go Whitley!

I think the Whitley style is 5 times cooler than the 5 spoke. It's more sophisticated looking and much classier. Any wheel comprised of 5 wide spokes looks too much like something off of old hopped-up Mustang!

I agree, so I am taking the majority rules approach and have made the leap. Ordered the Conventry Whitley 20 x 8.5 Hyper Silver w/ Chrome lip for the front and 20 x 10 for the rear.

I am sure your all wondering about costs........ Cost of the wheels $1056.00 for all 4 ($264.00 each wheel). Mounting $64.00. TPMS sensor rebuild Kit $18.00. Gorilla Wheel Installation Kit (new lugs/ locks) $45.50.

Also added a new set of tires.

Some info on Coventry:

Coventry Wheels for Jaguar........

Coventry Wheels was created with the sole purpose of making bespoke Jaguar wheels. Jaguar cars require a very specific wheel and Coventry has mastered the art of the Jaguar wheel. All Coventry wheels are created to be hub centric on Jaguar cars. All Coventry wheels are engineered to fit perfectly on your Jaguar. Coventry wheels work with the original Jaguar bolts and caps and are designed with the perfect offset for you Jaguar car. The wheels are made to extremely strict quality standards to ensure a luxurious ride for you and your Jaguar.

I will take a few photos when the wheels and tires are on the car. They should look very classy as Snide72 has stated.

Work should be completed within 10 to 14 days. The local dealer matched the low internet price, and if any problems they will cover the problem. They guarantee fitment 100%. Went thru a national chain called Discount Tire, in California they go by the name America's Tire. I have used them before and are very professional and do quality work. They also have locations in the east, southeast and Florida.

Thanks for all the input.

That's a great deal at $300 per wheel, installed! You'd pay more for a refurbished OEM wheel, and your Whitley is brand new with a guarantee! They should look great! Can't wait to see the pix. Be sure to include closeups at angles so we can see the curvature of the center section and lip details.

Rich - Great choice and buy. Can't wait to see the pictures. I have been toying around with the idea of getting Coventry Wheels too. Not ready to pull the trigger yet.

Long story....detailed explaination.

For many years I raced & owned high speed, high performance Formula race cars. During this 10 year period I used many different major brand racing tires from Goodyear Eagle, Hoosier, Avon, Hankook. You can visit my website in my signature below if you wish.

While I used many Goodyear Eagle racing tires for my Formula cars, I also bought many Hankook.

The Hankook brand is a tire that I think many people totally underestimate. I also had the Hankook brand on many of my past sports type cars.

So today in my research, I ultimately decided on the following:

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110

Front: 255/35ZR20.........$162.00 each for total of $324.00
Rear: 285/30ZR20.........$215.00 each for total of $430.00

While many owners of the Jaguar brand may be purchasing expensive brands such as Pirelli, Dunlap, Michelin, I see no need or reason to spend high dollars for these brand of tires.

My decision on the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 was based on years of racing experience with the Hankook brand. I strongly suggest that anyone who might think these tires are sub standard or cheap, to complete their due dilgence on the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110. These are rated maxium high performance tires and can be considered a "sleeper" brand for performance and overall quality. Many wouldn't even think to consider the name Hankook.

There are many reviews if one is to "google" this exact tire. The ratings and consumer ratings are quite high and will surprise many. The Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 tire is an outstanding buy when looking for performance and overall quality.

Hope this info helps. Anyone looking for new rubber for their performance Jaguar should seriously consider this specific tire.

Based on my experience, I know I will be very well pleased.

Rich,

Ha! Great minds think alike!

I replaced my worn out Michelins with the V12 Evos almost a year ago. They're quiet, smooth riding, have held their balance from day 1, and have good, quick turn-in. I'm a fairly sane driver, so I can't say how well they perform at the edge. And since I don't drive my XKR in the rain, I can't say how they are in the wet.

The Evos grip much better in acceleration from a dead stop on dry roads than my old Michelins, which didn't have much grip left after they were worn half-way down. I run 3 lbs. over the factory sticker recommendations - 33 front, 36 rear.

I based my purchase decision in large part on user reviews on TireRack.com and saved a bundle over the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Sure, the Pilot SS is a better tire but it wasn't worth the cost premium to me. If I could rotate the tires and get more miles out of them, then maybe I would have bought the Michelins. But knowing that I would be lucky to get 20k miles out of a set of tires made the lower cost Evos more attractive.

For my purposes, the Evos have been great so far and I'll probably buy another set when the time comes.

Stuart

Update:

Although Coventry Wheels are specifically made for the Jaguar brand, when the wheels came into the tire dealer (Discount Tire), the rear wheels would not fit over the Alcon brake calipers.

For those 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition owners with the Alcon brakes, wheels are extremely difficult to find due to the small offset of the wheel required to fit the Alcon brake calipers.

In most cases wheels have to be custom built for this Jaguar model.

The Coventry Whitley wheels Hyper Silver w/ Chrome lip is one awesome looking wheel. I was extremely disappointed to find out the rear wheels would not fit the car. The offset I needed is not available. Need positive offset +20 or lower.

If you are changing wheels and want a fantastic look, I highly recommend the Coventry Whitley wheels providing you can get proper fitment.

The search goes on.
