Custom Carbon Fiber XKR Engine Appearance Cover
My thanks to Richzak, who inspired me to do a similar hydrographic carbon fiber look on my Engine Appearance Cover. Here's Richzak's thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2l-xkr-112687/
My cover was done by Voyles Hydrographics in Marietta, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. Cost was $185 including their $15 off internet coupon. Here's their website: Custom Hydro Dipping | Voyles Hydrographics,in Atlanta Georgia I had them airbrush the "SUPERCHARGED" embossed letters in red, to match the engine oil filler cap and my red brake calipers. I also added a red Leaper to complete the new look.
I think it's a pretty big bang for the buck! I showed it to a salesman at Motorcars of Georgia, a high-end Aston Martin/Lambo/McLaren dealer today and asked him how much he would be willing to pay to have this done - I told him it was hydrographics and not real CF - and he said $400 - $500. Glad I got mine done now, before the prices go up!

George05 is in London; to him, a 2009 is a 5.0L. To us Yanks, it's a 4.2L. There's a thread on this Forum explaining the confusion and the differences between model year, registration year, and the year built. [Here's the link:

Using George05's rationale, all cars are a complete and utter waste of money compared to roller skates. And, in George's case, an umbrella!
Different strokes for different folks. That's why cars are available in various types, colors and options. And if the factory doesn't offer it, enterprising folks like WhiteXKR will create what the factory forgot - the remote control top. I'm sure that the Forum members who added it agree that it's worth the cost.

The leaper is a sticker that I bought on eBay for $3.99 a pair, delivered. Here's the link: 2 Jaguar Decals 7 inch Long Sticker Many Colors to Pick | eBay Great seller, quick delivery, quality item.
I tried to make the picture smaller, but was unable to do so.
I cut the leaper off the sticker and fitted it to the Engine Appearance Cover. I didn't cover it with clear coat, since it appears to be thick enough to be durable under the hood.

Just doing the engine cover itself, creates a "wow factor" when lifting the bonnet. The cover becomes a central focal point of the engine immediately.

It's still as good as the day I had it done. Note that when I park in my garage, I usually open the hood (bonnet) fully to allow the hot air in the engine compartment to escape faster than it would through the hood vents (XKR). That probably helps the longevity of the decal and other rubber parts.

As far as doing it, it would depend upon a Pride of Ownership sort of thing, especially if he goes (went, nowadays) to any car show or similar events. This is the modern equivalent to people putting chrome valve covers on old hotrods.
