Default Designer exhaust system with cachet

This is a new system that I designed in order to get more of a deeper growl out of the xkr. If you notice in one of the pics you can see that I went from the stock size pipe up to pipes that are 2.5 o.d. This was great for gettign me maniac mid-range and hi end but it really sucked when I was coming off the line. If you notice there arent any mufflers or resonators here, there by providing scant back pressure. Cause I had little back pressure this is why, I believe I lost a lot coming off the line. both of the tips on each side go into a magnaflow collector. 2.5 in and dual 2.5 out. I didnt want to junk this set up so I went and got 2 Vance and Hines motorcycle baffles to weld into the inboard side of the tips. The baffles are2.5 o.d. and go down to 1.75 with a perforated sleeve. I know it will work cause I stuffed both baffles in the pipes backwards from the back and held them in place with wadded up fireplace wrap. All I wanted to do was test them a couple times and it worked.!! Both gave me enough backpressure coming off the line 2 times until I blew them out the back end . The sound was also unconcious with these in there. My boyfriend helped get me someone to weld this system for me that was more than patient. Only downside to this was I had to keep on taking the system apart in order to get correct measurement befor everything was welded together.

So you deleted the rear box - did you retain the centre mufflers? Must have been pretty loud without the bike baffles in place.

There is only the rear muffler box on a 2013 xkr ragtop. There arent any center mufflers. It is louder than what u mite expect, but I wanted fast and loud

Does your car have the center x pipe instead of mufflers?

yes it does hav the center x pipe. only thing left are the verts I would take them off and install dummy oxygen sensors to prevent codes but i m little bit lazy and this would void the warranty, but i could put stainless clamps and pipes to quick change the verts on like i had done with the exhuast system i designed if i needed warranty work to b done and the dealer wouldnt kno. but i hav other hobbies like my fiance, getting ready for my wedding and goin to the beach in coronado or oceanside or santa monica. cars arent my life. i like to go shopping more than lay on the ground. if you saw a previous post, i now have no nails. i hav to get tht done this week, like quick

If you have the crossover pipe, that's the Performance Active Exhaust, not the standard XKR system. It was an option, $1000 or some such. It's the standard system on the R-S.

I asked my Jag contact what HP gain that system gives, but he didn't know (he's a dynamics guy). I think it's mostly about the sound, but there must be some extra power achieved without the centre silencers.

Thank you for sharing this post. I would be interested to hear it as well. I removed the resonators and replaced them with an X pipe and love the sound. It feels like more power to me but I will be doing a dyno soon to find out for certain, when I do an ECU tune. I retained the rear muffler to keep back pressure and also heard that removing it would make it sound like a Mustang...

That is exactly why I went from the standard pipes up to 2.5 o.d. Instead of sounding like a mustang it now sounds like a 69 vette with a 427 in it. The baffles will only make it sound more vicious and with more out of the hole power

Looks to be a cool setup. Can you take pictures of your car from behind and kind of undernearth?

I'd like to put an X pipe and remove the resonator on my XK. Are there any pre-fabricated available on the market?

Are you replacing your cats with made up down pipes or are you buying high flow 200 cell cats? I've been shopping for a set of high flow cats and they are expensive. Where are you getting your down pipes or high flow cats? I'd be interesting in a set. I'll be in Calabasas, LA, next month and could pick them up if you want to have another set made up.

I looked at the Fabspeed one, it's $1500, essentially what I did, just as functional just not as "pretty".

It sounds awesome. I haven't been able to obtain an acceptable recording as of yet, but when I do I will be posting.

Hmmmm... that Fabspeed one does sound pretty good. I like that from the outside, it appears completely stock.

$1500 is a bit rich for me--I need that money to fix the next thing that goes wrong on my XKR!
