Default Do these Xks really need radio/nav updates?

Just took possession of my XK. FINALLY!
Just 1 question guys, accoording to the previous owner, the nav was giving him some type of issue & due to some update that is needed. But today when i got in the car & started it the screen didn't display @ all. I have an appointment set up tomorrow w jag but wanted ask u exerts if the radio/nav does indeed neeed to be updated once in a while in order to function properly? & does anybody in the Houston area know of a place besides the dealership that would be able to do this update? like in & out process, cause it would be really nice to be able to get this fixed be4 i head out back home (which is only a 6hr drive from Houston) w.out a radio. appreciate the helpguys!

I hate to say this but I don't think I would have bought a car with that issue. Seller should have gotten that fixed ahead of time.

I think he was talking about updates on the DVD nav disc. I think you are having a problem with the touchscreen/radio part. I've read some on here about that problem. I'm with Jay, he should have fixed it. It may be Jaguar wouldn't repair it under warranty and he didn't want to pay to have it fixed.

There's a TSB about the touchscreen freezing covering VINs up to B20990 which is caused by the screen bezel touching the screen. The fix is to remove the bezel, adjust the torx screws holding the screen until you can fit a folded slip of paper between the screen and the bezel.

But... the screen can freeze after cranking the engine if the battery is slightly weak which is probably the more likely cause.
