Default Do you think Ford

Being the brand was owned by Ford and there were quality programs put in place by them to improve reliability do you think Ford service technicians can work on the later model Jags. Since being sold to Tata has all of the Ford "stuff" been replaced by different or new suppliers. Just wondering when the split date really was.

My 2010 still has a LOT of Ford parts, so I assume the entire line still uses the same parts until 2015. Of course, "parts" can also be destroyed by Ford technicians. There is a Ford Dealer near me (altho I won't say which dealer [Ed Kenley Ford]) where I will never, EVER go for service. I brought my old 2001 Lincoln LS (basically a Jaguar) because loss of vacuum, which I self-diagnosed as a slipped timing chain. Their "Techs" said I had a bad coil and needed a new injector. HA! It was the chain.
So anyway, I don't think Ford service "technicians" can work on ANYthing. I trust my Indie guy seven billion times more than any Dealer Tech, Ford or otherwise.

Just about anyone can "work" on these cars if you mean change oil, brakes, bolt stuff off & on. So I don't see why a Ford tech would be any better or worse than a guy who runs his own workshop.

As for "Ford Stuff" well it was never really enough shared components to call a Jag a Ford anyhow.

And for sure the Ford IDS diagnostic system does not "work" with Jags, so you can't expect a Ford dealer to do everything a Jaguar dealer can.

yes and no. As said most any qualified (very subjective) mechanic can work on a Jag but to what extend is questionable. The reason some people go to dealerships is for the perceived "peace of mind" believing that they have completed training courses specific to not only that car line but hopefully your specific car model. By going to a Ford dealer or mechanic this won't be the case so in reality Ford won't be any better, possibly less qualified, than going to an Indi hat specializes in ether Jags or imported cars. The fact that our cars carry many Ford parts has little to do with the mechanics behind them it is far more about the intricacies than the origin or label of the parts. Keep in mind what you're looking to have done is the major question - if it is brake replacement, oil changes, filters, etc than almost anyone with a low level of competence can perform that, if it is something requiring then Jag computer then you're kind of stuck going to the dealer. I am one that does not believe that going to a dealership give any reasonable level of higher proficiency nor in the case of negligence is there any better recourse so that added costs are hardly recouped over going to a quality indi or DIY if so able.

I'll echo what others have said. I'm certainly not the most mechanically inclined person on this forum (probably one of the least...), so I take all my cars to my independent guy. They only do Jags and Land Rovers, everything from the old XK120/140/150 up to the latest stuff. They have several JLR master technicians there, as well as old-school mechanics. And the diagnostic tools needed for these cars. They also let me watch all the work done to my cars and answer any questions I have.

I used to own a Ford Explorer, and our local dealer techs had trouble figuring out what the problem was if the codes didn't tell them everything they needed to know.

Simply put, I like to take my cars to mechanics and not techs AKA dealers. I wouldn't let any dealer near any of my cars haha.

Ford sold Jaguar to India's Tata Motors for 2.3 Billion. The deal was announced on March 26, 2008. I have seen several parts on my 2009 Jaguar XKR named FOMO.

From the perspective of the Ford specialist, a Jaguar out in
the service lot is not an attractive proposition. It is likely
surrounded by 50 Fords for which he has documentation,
tools, diagnostics equipment, parts, and experience.

Which one is going to yield a better total at the end of
the work day?

If a Ford specialist is faced with a Ford against any other make
for the next job in the stall, the Ford is going to get picked.
That's just commercial reality.

My two cents.
I live in a small town, a couple of hours away from any large Jag dealership. I have also been very fortunate in that my XK has had no problems.
Having said that, I have had all my service done at the local Ford dealership. I know both the owner and service manager, who told me that he has software that gives him access to workshop manuals for most cars including mine. In addition to oil changes, they replaced my brakes and just replaced the thermostat assembly without issue.

So, basically it's not the shop or dealership, it's the people.

I know indy's will call the dealership to ask questions and even the dealerships call my indy to ask questions on older Jags (how to's, etc...)

For me, as others mentioned; it comes down to the mechanic doing the work. My indy can do most stuff, but some things they just don't want to get into (like removing dash), nor do they have Jaguar computer stuff should it need that. My indy knows what they can do and what they don't want to do.

If OP is trying to find someone other the dealer or a Jaguar indy specialist to work on the car, I would imagine that a Land Rover specialist would be one to consider more than Ford.

I think there is much more in common between Jaguar and the Range Rover from 2006 on, than there is between Ford and Jaguar. IDS/SDD software, engines, etc.

I just purchased new rims and tires and needed the sensors moved from old to new and wanted it done this past Saturday. I called the two reputable indy's in town and they both weren't able to do do it given such short notice.
The problem was they both quoted an extra $59 to reprogram the computer after the switch was done, which we all know it resets itself.
I was able to get it done at a discount tire that knew the procedure, that day. I don't think they were trying to rip me off but I think they just didn't know. So for some repairs it may be fine but some prices may be inflated due to not knowing.
