To avoid dissapointment, keep to cars with with least number of owners and preferably one in long term ownership.. you may pay a little more initially.. but will save in the long term, and have better peace of mind...lower priced cars are rarely the bargains they seem.. this is a 'rule of thumb' to be applied to ANY car that is costly to maintain and repair...

I just recently (Mid-November 2020) got a 2017 F-Type through Carvana. I would not recommend Carvana at all. It's stupid that you can't inspect the car prior to purchase (much less a test drive). There were multiple issues during the paperwork phase as well, and my delivery date got moved 3 times. Once I did get the car, however, it was amazing! To be fair, every Carvana employee I dealt with was super nice and helpful. Just the actual process/paperwork were a nightmare.

Hello fellow Jag lover. Short answer,.....I personally wouldn't trust anyone/car with 8 owners. It would have to be EXTREEMLY SPECIAL circumstances as in EXTREEMLY!! for me to even entertain the thought. I'd liken it to dating a very attractive woman that's 38 yrs. old, all that and 'a bag of chip' and been married 8 times. One part of me would want to think it's all OK while the other part (the part that sets on my shoulders) would be screaming WTF are you thinking about!!!!

Personally I'D RUN AS FAST AS i COULD,

Also, there seems to be a pattern of short-term ownership. That many people can't have chosen the wrong type of car, just the wrong car.

Pass.

Do anyone know anything about Carvana? They have a 150 point inspection but I am old and I don't trust anyone with a Jag xkr. Jags have so many querks that I doubt they even looked at any of them.

Thanks for the help. I will get one soon.

hello, that sounds like a lot to me. I have a XKR 175 with about 38k miles and I’ve been the owner since about 4K miles. I will be getting the car ready to sell in the spring if you are interested.

If you are looking at a Carfax, sometimes they count ownership funny and you have to look into the details to figure it out. As an example, I recently sold a car that looked like it had 5 owners and it only had 3 (including me). Carfax is sometimes counting the dealer where it was traded as an owner, which is technically correct, but flawed for the consumer. The dealer that bought it off-lease at the auction was a "owner" and the dealer that took it in when I bought it was listed as an "owner". So only 3 consumers owned it. Nevertheless, I'd be scared even if it had only 4 owners at this age. Take it to the Jag dealer for a pre-purchase inspection and invest the $200-$300 they will charge. Better than getting stuck with a $30k+ turd!

This car has the potential to be a major disappointment. The Carvana price is not negotiable, as we all know, and it is not really a very good deal even for a car with a good track record. Considering what gremlins you might encounter mechanically, you need to factor in thousands of dollars for troubleshooting time and parts. Even if the price was substantially cheaper by thousands do you want to spend your limited free time going back and forth to a mechanic for the fix (which apparently couldn't be accomplished by the last owners).
My vote: Pass on this car
Regards

I would suggest that ongoing drivability/performance and electrical system issues may be the main reason that the car is being sold by owners so quickly.
People may be trading the car in early to wash their hands of it and passing the buck to the next guy.

What a strange thing to say by a forum member. Or was it wry humor that did not translate well in a post?

Hi, sounds a bit fishy to me, for a premium vehicle like this that many owners in such a short time would put me off, that said, if the price is reasonable research the model year for deficiencies/recalls, and for sure get any service/repair work done.

I'm a serious buyer this spring and a only on a really good deal buyer during this winter for a DB9, as I've said here and to you several times lol. This type of expense shouldn't surprise people. There are parts you can parts bin on the Astons and save some cash and "cheat the system" but Yeah, when it's Aston specific, you're paying for an entry level exotic car part, and shouldn't be surprised pikachu about it.

Run away ... unless you are looking for a project car - in which case pay project car price.

$0.02

To those that support the purchase of this car and to the OP considering purchase, I would ask that they consider the following. The OP is not a mechanic or even one that has told us that he wrenches on his own cars let alone the somewhat mysterious innards and electrical labyrinth of the XK or XKRs., Troubleshooting on your own is often fraught with frustration. This forum helps with a lot of mysteries but this car appears to be from another dimension of woe. He wants a Jag for good reason, they are fabulous cars. But this car has two strikes against it already. There are so many variables and red flags with this vehicle and I'm including my suspicion that it has sustained some sort of unreported water damage from the coastal hurricanes in the past few years. I believe that if he acquires this car we will see the unfortunate transformation of a new excited, devoted Jag owner (and Forum member) to a resentful, bitter Jag naysayer. He will be angry with the car's time in the shop versus time driving it. He will be pissed when he has to limp home or be towed. He will be aggrieved with the money waisted and thinking he should have bought an Audi or BMW. If the OP buys this car, he will be owner number 9 soon looking for owner number 10.
Please buy another Jaguar. You will not regret passing on this one, you will only regret buying it. Get another superb example without the baggage of this car and you will become and remain a fan of the brand.
Good luck and regards
