Just started looking a a jag with 8 owners. WTF It only has 48K miles But I don't know if I trust one with 8 owners. Last owner had it six months. Sounds like to me something was wrong and it took six months to find out what it was.
Do anyone know anything about Carvana? They have a 150 point inspection but I am old and I don't trust anyone with a Jag xkr. Jags have so many querks that I doubt they even looked at any of them.
Give us some more information, year, carfax report, seller info, coupe or convertible, modifications etc. However, the more owners in less time is reason for concern. Although, I only kept my last 2 XKRs for a year or 2 after buying them almost new. The one I have now is a keeper and I'm the second owner. I suggest you review the service records and if you're serious call them.
Reading through the CarFAX it appears many of the owners were not people but dealers. The first group of owners looked like maybe a leasing or rental co., then car was purchased by other dealers, one looks like it could have been a repro.
They all did service work, so it looks like it was taken care of. Battery was changed much quicker than expected though.
I had a similar experience with the one I bought, not as many owners as this one, but found out the first few owners were though lease dealers, not that strange for luxury cars.
They give you phone numbers of the owners, call the companies, ask for the service dept, give them the VIN # and they should be able to tell you exactly what services they did to the car. That should show if there was an ongoing problem.
Ballz, man. That thing was serviced sometimes four times in a month! I don't agree with a Dealer Car. It wouldn't have been reported SOLD.
When a car is in Service an average of once every three weeks, that is NOT a car to buy. Of course.... if you also got a Free five-year warranty AND a greatly reduced price, then Maybe???
I'm suspicious of the whole Carvana thing too, buying sight-unseen but they promise you a seven day refund. I'd be worried that I'd tell them to come take it back but that it would take them six months to process my refund. For the average soccer mom buying a common late model SUV, I can see the convenience appeal of car shopping online, but not for a gearhead purchasing a relatively expensive and unique enthusiast/hobby vehicle. Half the things that could be defective or even just the wrong options with an XKR don't apply or wouldn't matter for the average SUV purchase.
Well you are purchasing a sports car. So start with that caveat first. You are then purchasing a Jaguar, not well known for their reliability and quirks. The 8 owners sounds like a combination of a lease car, fleet car by the dealer or being shopped around from auction to auction. So it really depends on the chance you are going to take. Have the car examined by a mechanic and go with that. You will always second guess yourself if the car has issues. You will feel on top of the world that you got the best deal if you never have a problem with it. In our modern time of leasing cars, you can almost guarantee that you will not be alone in the ownership arena if you were not the original owner. Good luck, relax, get a good price and a service plan if the car looks good and drive the hell out of it. All the best.
Mine had 3 owners in 4 years. But it did have 2 years left on the 160000, 6 year warranty. And I got it with 35000. My thoughts were at that price, even if I replaced the interior, I was ahead.
that was 9 years ago... how time flies.
When I bought my 2014 in 2018 it was sitting in probate for 14 months and had missed two services, but only had 1 previous owner (plus the purchasing garage)
I appreciate that XKR's are far rarer stateside than here, but for comparable money over here you'd get:
the only thing i know of carvana is there are longstanding rumors of their questionable accounting practices among short-side researchers, so don't buy their stock. don't think this affects you or that car in a specific way, but for the simple fact that it is there at all, and not, for example, being sold by the previous owner. you probably cannot get the truth about it until after you've bought it.
Personally, I'd never buy a car with that record. Particularly with a high end car, it matters a lot to get the actual service records. That means it's a one-owner or maybe two owner car. Though better than nothing at all, Carfax gives you few useful details, and no verifiable details on what was done and why.
Even then, I bought my XK because I have 40 years doing my own work, had 130 photos of it, and complete service records.
If you have a dealer do the work, you're in a world of $500 batteries, $1000 for a couple of injectors, $1500 brake jobs and so on.
Hell, just doing a new-to-you full fluids refresh (oil, coolant, brakes, tranny, steering and differential) could easily hit $1-1.5K at a dealer.
