tried to get the cover off of the door handle on the drivers side where the keyhole is to unlock the door if the keyfob battery craps out. I broke it I think because I can put it back in place and it comes off without prying it loose. is it suppose to fit lose? does anyone know the part name for that item in case I need to replace it or the part number? I assume the Jag dealer would be able to get it.
thanks
No one can tell you the part number because you didn't tell us the year, model and color of your car. That cover probably comes painted to match your car color.
The quickest way to get any OEM Jaguar part is from your local Jaguar dealer, but that usually is at the highest price. There are alternatives. I don't know if that little cover is available separately, or if you have to buy the handle assembly.
Check with the Forum sponsors that sell OEM Jaguar parts, such as SBG Barratt and Coventry West. Mention that you're a Forum member and ask if they offer a discount. Also look in the Classified Ads Forum for parts sellers.
Also Google "Jaguar OEM discount parts" and search those websites for what you need. They have parts diagrams to help you pinpoint what you're looking for. You can also Google "Jaguar salvage parts" but most dismantlers don't sell small trim parts.

sorry, got in a hurry . its a 2008 XK convertible, Lunar Gray color.
Never knew you could jump the car from the outside , how ?
It’s mentioned in numerous threads, that there is a positive charging post behind the left rear wheel well. Probably covered by a rubber boot, and may even have a label on it.
Take a peek under there, so you know where it is when you need it.
Connect your negative charger cable to any grounded part of the body.

My handle cover also broke many years ago. I painted a small stainless screw body color and installed it up from the bottom to hold it in place. I've not even noticed it since. Neither has anyone else.

the issue is that I sold the car and in the process of showing the new owner how to remove it I managed to break it. I ordered a replacement for them and am getting it color matched at the paint shop. i'll probably have $200 in this before it's done.

It would perhaps have helped if you shared all of these useful deets on your original post?

you will need to paint to match.
I have a little experience with this. The door handle on my wife's car crapped out, and the little rubber square that you push on to lock the car was badly deteriorated. I found a new handle for it, but, yeah, they come unpainted and you have to address that. Taking one handle to a body shop is one way, but obviously, they're gonna charge you a bundle just to mix up the paint. I found a little less expensive solution. I got a bottle of touch-up paint from this outfit:
Nice match. With a pasche air brush, I masked off and painted the new handle. Three light coats, and it looked pretty good. Then I cleared it in with this stuff, which I think I got at Home Depot. There's nothing magic about this, but it is LACQUER. And that's what you want for hardness and durability. Here's the product.
Word to the wise: Try the clear on a piece of white paper before you spray it on your work. I had an older can of clear, and when I used it, it had yellowed and completely changed the color of the handle! Rats! I had to use lacquer thinner and wipe off all the paint and start over. Oh well. Finally got it done. Here's the result.
I'm happy with it. I can't tell it was ever changed out.
