Anyone have any experience with doors that auto lock after a few minutes, after everyone is out and both of the doors are closed?

This happens whether the fob is in the car or no where near the car.

I have had this car since new and the problem only started a few weeks ago after a service visit to Jag in Newport Beach, CA.

Normally, you cannot lock the doors if the fob is anywhere inside the car (unless it is in a metal box). Not with the door handle locking button or with a second fob. If you try, you get a two beep alarm and the doors will not lock.

And I have never heard of doors automatically locking themselves after x minutes, when no one is in the car.

Of course, the doors do lock when you are seated in the drivers seat, start the car, put the car in gear and accelerate above a minimum level. That function works just fine.

Any thoughts?

It's called "Passive Arming" and can be changed in the VEHICLE/SECURITY settings. (not absolutely sure of nomenclature, not looking at it right now)

 

I have looked for that setting, but it isn't on the screens and it isn't in the manual.

 

Never seen a passive arming selection in my menus, and it would seem a foolish setting.
The service manual says "The driver can select locking options, single point entry or drive away locking for example, from a menu available on the TSD."

If there is such a setting, then I would be stunned.

Couple possibilities I would think about:
1.) Is the fob battery low? Remember, there are 4 sensors inside the cabin that detect the presence of the fob and inhibit locking you out. Maybe they are not getting a signal. or
2.) A loss of one sensor could be problematic and make thing appear intermittent depending on where the key was inside, but I would think the remaining three would still cover the interior fairly well.
3.) The Central locking system(CLS) is failing.

My 07 locked me out twice, both times as soon as I closed the door... You could hear it lock then and there....
Someone here pointed to a very logical possibility. The inside door handle has a loose or weak spring. Closing the door solidly caused enough movement of the inside mechanism to trigger the locks.
Needles to say I have cut a couple spare e-keys to prevent getting locked out again!

Just firing out random thoughts... take it and two cents for what it is worth...

 

Passive arming is for the alarm. I turned mine off because I'd keep opening my unlocked car and then having to run in the house for the keys to turn the alarm off. When I lived in the apartment complex that took some time! (And was embarrassing). It's not for the door lock.

Clever Name -

The fob batteries are new. That was the first thing I thought of, so I changed each of the fob batteries. But the new batteries may have been from an old batch, long on the shelf.

 

Another thought -

The doors are auto locking even when there is no fob in the car or nearby - so it is unlikely that it is a low battery issue.

Something is causing the locks to shut - much in the same way that they lock when the car engine is turned on, the gear shift is moved to drive and the car accelerates to 7mph+ (as per the manual).

 

The nearest my '07 comes to that is if I unlock the car but then don't get in it the doors relock after 30 seconds or so.

The X150 techical guides says:

"There is no automatic passive locking of the vehicle."

 

At least the alarm horn on the X150 is the wimpy meep meep horn!

I don't know about you guys, but here's mine, second page of Security under Veh, Settings... When ON, my doors lock and alarm on after about 5-8 minutes. OFF, nothing happens.

 

Mine does the same thing. If I don't open the door within about 30 seconds or so, the car re-locks itself. I figured it was either a safety thing or just one of those jaguar unique features.

 

Not unique to Jags, my '99 Lexus relocks if I don't open the door in 20-30 seconds, and I can't disable that feature.

What car do you have - make model, and year.

That picture you sent is NOT on my Security panel as an option.

No, it is a publication produced by Jaguar for the launch of the X150 and gives a technical overview of the car. One was also produced for the XKR when it came out plus one for the 5.0 Litre cars.

Then I think there's something wrong. Passive arming applies to the alarm only, and occurs within a few seconds after you exit the vehicle, independent of whether it's locked.

Auto relock controls the feature that relocks the car after 20 seconds only if you do not open the door after you unlock the car. This feature is common on many cars now, including both my VWs.

If you open the door or mess with the car in any way it should NOT re-lock automatically, and certainly not after 5-8 minutes. If your car does that I think that's not right.

But anyway, all this is moot for you, Portman if (as Clevername says) it was not a feature on the 2007. I have the 2010 and I believe Cee Jay does also.

 

So maybe I have the same "problem" that portman has, but I consider it a feature. It works OK for me. Mine does the same, will relock if the door isn't opened after 20-30 seconds. BUT, mine ALSO locks about five minutes after the door HAS been opened and closed again if the START button has not been pressed. It has caused me to go get the SmartKey after I put it away, but I'd rather have it Lock by itself than UN-lock by itself.
Yes, mine's the 2010 XKR, pretty much optioned-up.
