Default Dull clunking noise when I take the foot of the gas

Hello all! I just got myself a 2009 XKR. I had the bushes and the brake pads replaced. There is a dull clunk sound when I take the foot off the gas pedal. The sound seems to be coming from underneath the driver side. Any idea what it could be. The sound is not observable in high speeds but it could also be the engine sound is muffling the sound. Would appreciate any input.

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new toy! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

Does it happen when the car is not moving? Stop and put the transmission in neutral or park, set the parking brake, and rev the engine from idle to about 2500 rpm a few times. If you hear that noise, check the motor mounts for wear and the exhaust system for a bad hanger or misalignment. If quiet, check the universal joints for excessive wear.

Have your mechanic take it for a drive and see what he thinks.

Welcome to the group and enjoy your car. I guess I would ask did you drive the car and have this noise before you had the work do ? If you didn't then I suspect something was not assembled correctly . The first thing I would do is go back to the place that did the job and show them the problem. It could be either a drive train noise of even a lose caliper or the bushings are not torques down. Also you need to be a little diplomatic because the place that did the work will say it's not their problem so be ready to maybe go somewhere else. Good luck and keep us posted.

Ditto. Maybe try to duplicate it at a stop. Give it some throttle and then let off and see if it thumps. If so demonstrate it to the shop or have some else do it while you look under the car. Just make sure they understand running you over isn't the idea. Possibly have the girlfriend do it and not the wife.

+ 1 one everything Stuart, Jagtoes and Ranchero50 said...

Or it could be God giving you a virtual smack upside the head for letting off the gas in your new Jaguar.

If you can put your car on a lift at the mechanic shop and try to replicate the issue...you might have better luck finding the culprit. Try it with the car on as well as off.

Thank you all for your replies. To answer the question, I cannot replicate the sound when the car is in park or neutral. It is only when the car is moving. Also- and I may be completely wrong about this because the engine might be drowning out the sound- the noise only seems to be occurring when the vehicle is in the first 2 gears. Again, I cannot be too sure of this. Any advice is appreciated. I will get it checked by a mechanic but I wanted to get an idea about what you intellectuals think first

Hello all, I had an issue with my engine overheating and had taken the car to dealer where they replaced the whole cooling assembly including that to the supercharger. They also put in new engine mounting and now the sound is completely gone. So the issue may have been bad engine mounting but cannot be sure. What do you guys think??

A worn or loose engine mount can indeed make this sort of noise.
