Default Dying whining alarm

Woke up this morning to a high pitched beeping noise that I immediately blamed on my neighbours. Turned out to be my XK 😔

It sounds like the alarm is dying. It’s not really loud but loud enough to wake up the neighbours as well! I’m not sure what set it off. I checked for any flies/bugs etc inside, locked it again but within 20 mins it was doing the same.

Only thing I can think of is that I gave my engine a good clean the other day, this foolishly included a light spray with the hose to wash the soap off. I understand the siren is under the plastic panels (although unsure if this is LH or RH side). Can I disconnect the siren to stop it doing it again or will that have a knock on effect? I don’t need the alarm as my street it very safe. I’ve disconnected the battery for the time being to save being that idiot on the street with the faulty jag ☺️

the alarm sounding is the first sign of a dying battery in these cars. The second sign is the exterior lights coming on. Now, this sounds impossible but it is true. How old is your battery?

Battery is 18 months old. Testing 12.62v. I’ve fully charged it with a ctek on recondition mode for the last 2 days just to rule it out. I have another issue with my touchscreen (that most say could be related to the battery too) but surely the battery is ruled out with it being that new and holding that much voltage?

thanks for the reply and any help.

Have you reset the electrics by disconnecting the battery cables and touching them together prior to reattaching?

Good morning @KILOCHARLIE .
To @jahummer point, when there are a series of electrical based issues (and what looks like unrelated) as you are having, it is best to start with a baseline of a system reset.

What would be helpful for us to help you is to get an indication of any other peculiarities or modifications which have been done to the car.

many thanks. I’ve just completed a system reset by holding the pos and neg cable together. My screen issue turned out to be a faulty display so that’s been replaced and all working now so this is the only issue on the whole car now. Nothing else is acting up and there’s been no modifications at all to the car, it’s exceptionally mint otherwise. I’ll see if the alarm sounds tonight again and will hope for my neighbours sake at least that all is well!

KILOCHARLIE,
You need to help us help you.

Please create a signature that includes the model year and other features of your car together with your location in GB, and add that to your Public Profile.

thanks, all done. Although there wasn’t enough space in the car field for many details but I’ve squeezed in as much as possible.

It looks like you have done the vehicle info field on your profile rather than your signature so it won't show when you post

You can modify your signature by clicking on the option in the Quick Links menu just under the page header.

Thanks for all the help. With a system reset it’s back to behaving just fine. No alarm sounds and no horrible noise when it goes off! Must have just been a gremlin! Thanks again all
