Alarm Problem
Sorry if this has been asked before, done a search of the forums but couldn't find an answer.
I thought the x type alarm sounded the main car horn, but recently another alarm has been sounding. The alarm goes off on it's own, and decided to sound while I was driving home yesterday.
My question is what and where is this other alarm, is there a battery back up for it, as I have now disconnected the main battery to stop this alarm from sounding.
Very annoying.
Thanks all

OK bought a new battery as the old one was not holding charge.
But my problem still exists. Does any one know where the alarm back up unit is, or how if possible reset the alarm.
I cant use the car as every time I connect the battery a high pitched "shrill" alarm sounds, not the full car alarm with light flashing.
Please can anyone help...

Hi Adrian,
What you are describing is a problem with the alarm chirp sounder.
Not sure where it is on your car so, reconnect the battery and locate the sound roughly then disconnect the battery again.
You may find it in one of the front wheel arches behind the headlights, just a guess though.
Once you have located the sounder, disconnect it.
Now you have some options,
1. remove the sounder, you may find it full of water, and repair it.
2. leave it disconnected and insulate the wiring.
3. take the car to a dealer and have the chirp switched off (dealer option).
Hope this helps a little.

Hi Adrian,
It is not a back up alarm, it is just a small sounder to indicate when the security system has been locked or unlocked.
It is a dealer option as to whether it is switched on or off.
There may be other causes as to why yours is going off constantly, but my money would be on water getting in to the connections.
When did it first happen?

It continues to sound for around 30 seconds stops for 30 seconds and wii carry on doing this until you can hear it getting weaker as if there is a battery running out.

Ok Adrian, I've just looked at the electrical diagram for your model. If as you say it is the main car horns then there is a relay in the main power distribution box. Remove it and see if it happens again. If it doesn't, then the problem is on your horns and if it does then I would say the problem is on the other 2.
You have 2 main horns, 1 active sounder and 1 passive sounder.
Have a look at Fig 12.3 on the electrical diagram which you will find at Captain Jaguars Electrical Diagrams
I can't see how this system works if the car battery has been removed.
Hope this helps a bit more.

OK. I have now found the battery back alarm.
It is situated behind the passenger side wheel arch cover, there appears to be rechargeable batteries in the unit. ( part number 1X43-19G229-BA ). Still not sure if the unit is faulty or if it was because of the main 12v battery was discharged.
What I have done is disconnected the wires from the unit and insulated them, alas no more sleepless nights.
Thanks everybody for your help
