Electric Radiator Fan Issues
I have a 2012 XK 5.0 Base Model that started overheating 2 weeks ago, 4th oF July weekend. AAA towed it to my mechanic who found a coolant hose that was located under the intake manifold behind the water pump that seperated. (Came apart due to heat and age).
After replacing it and firing up the motor for more leaks, a small tubular hose with hard fitting connectors broke at the fitting due to the pressure. It was the weakest link.
I had the water pump replaced 2 years ago but we didn't replace the thermostat. At this point I told the mechanic to replace the thermostat and replace the broken tube as I thought maybe the thermostat was old and was the culprit causing all my overheating problems.
Once this was done we fired up the motor and low and behold, no leaks. But, the AC/C was working and then blowing warm, then working and then blowing warm.
"Turn the car off!", the mechanic said. "Your Electric Radiator Fan isn't working. There's your problem".
So we order an aftermarket Electric Radiator Fan from Rockauto.com and paid for 2 day delivery. It arrived yesterday 7/11 and I brought it to my mechanic to install today, 7/12.
He ran power to the fan's harness connector and said it's no good. The fan motor wasn't turning. Then I told him to hook it up to the car's harness and to start the car. The same result. We also turned on the A/C and still nothing.
He believes it a bad fan.
I called the manufacturer and they said they sold 18 of the exact fans, from the same batch. in the past 2 years and none have come back defective.
So, could it be something in the computer that's not telling the fan to come on? Does something need to be reset in the computer?
Of course Jaguar won't help unless it's their fan or unless you bring them the car. And then I'll have a huge hole in my wallet and my As$
Please help!

The fan's commanded to turn on and off as needed. It sounds like your mechanic tested the fan outside of the car which would indicate the car had nothing to do with the tests, so if the fan doesn't work out of the car, then it's likely a bad fan.
Jahummer is correct. If the fan was correctly tested with a 12V feed and didn't spin out of the car then it is faulty and will have to be exchanged. However, have a look to see how many terminals there are in the electrical connector for the fan. If there are just two then it will be +ve and -ve and testing it is simple. If there are more than two terminals, then it is likely that one or more terminals are CAN bus and great care needs to be exercised to ensure that the correct +ve and -ve terminals are selected. Using the wrong terminals, even for a split second, can permanently damage the fan.

I got a full return for the Aftermarket fan 2 weeks later and took the car to a different shop for a second opinion at a cost of $80.00 for an inspection of the problem.
They determined that it was indeed the Radiator Fan. I had them install an OEM Radiator Fan. Cost - $1,500.00.
The car has been fine now, going on 2 months.

After taking my 2012 XK to another garage for a 2nd opinion and having it diagnosed as having a faulty Radiator Fan and paying $1,500 to be fixed, the problem raised it's ugly head again and my car's A/C stopped again. So I took it to a 3rd garage where they stated that it needed an Evaporator which was the only thing left to replace. Unfortunately, it's located behind the dashboard and that has to be removed. So I bit the bullet and replaced it. The A/C was blowing cold air fine. 3 days later it stopped. I returned and they recharged the unit. Result, cold A/C. 4 days later, no A/C. WTF? I returned and they found a leak in a seal on a pipe on the underside of the motor. They replaced it and after another recharge and I have cold A/C. A week later, no A/C. I return again. They diagnosed that the Radiator Fan wasn't going into the 2nd speed when the A/C is turned on. I told him that I had a brand new OEM Jaguar Radiator Fan installed just a year earlier and that the issue has to be a bad sensor, module or a short. Hopefully not a computer. Something is not telling the Radiator to go into the 2nd speed. After 3 days I get a call. They found and fixed the problem in 15 minutes. It was a short in the wire harness coming from he car that connects to the coupler that connects to the Radiator Fans harness coupler. All that money spent on a Radiator Fan, the labor to install it, the new Evaporator and labor and the time spent gong back and forth not to mention the cost for Uber Rides and it was a short as I suspected. But God forbid that I'm not a "Trained Mechanic" telling "Trained Mechanic's" what it could be. I have had cold A/C in the car for more than a year now.
