Sounds like it needs an exorcism.

Trying to interpret what you said up above. If my guess is correct you need a new battery/alternator or both. If you should get a new battery (even if you don't) get yourself a Ctek and connect it to your XK when it is to be left sitting for a few days. The Ctek is a battery maintainer and can be bought on ebay or Amazon for about $60-$70. It will take you about 15-20 minutes to properly install it.

If you need more information type in Ctek battery maintainer in the searchbox at the top of the page and read some of the threads dealing with battery issues.

I had the same gear box fault and wipers turning on by themselves at startup. I had the battery replaced and hooked up a CTEK 4.3 and problem solved. I would go with ralphwg's recommendation and get a CTEK. Should you decide to get a CTEK, there are detailed installation instructions available on this forum. Please read the CTEK setup carefully though. Connecting the negative lead to the negative battery post directly may mess up the battery monitor in later model years. I have a 2013 so I connected the CTEK positive lead to the positive battery post and the negative lead to the one of the bolt downs of the navigation disc drive which is a ground and all is well. Hope this helps.

Definitely sounds electrical, and if it's happening while it's running, probably either alternator or something stopping output from the alternator (faulty wiring, bad relay, faulty ECM).

Battery might be an issue if it has an internal short that is sucking all the power from the alternator. Sick batteries usually give you weird symptoms on startup rather than while running, but I have seen a battery kill an otherwise-healthy car.

dealer called and it is electrical. A ground cable post was corroded between the battery and engine causing engine to cut out and all electronics to go off. The good thing is they found the problem but cost $400. Oh well got to have it. Of note ,car stays in air conditioned garage here in Florida and is not driven daily but got a corrosion issue go figure.

If it was the ground cable crimp, it is a common failure point.
