Default Engine will not stop.

This has been going on for several months now but has recently gotten very bad. The car starts first time every time but when trying to shut it off, sometimes, it won't shut down when I push the button. Sometimes if I hold it down it will stop after several seconds. The last couple of days, I held the button down for a couple of minutes with no joy; I pushed the button down and wiggled it with no joy; finally I pushed the button multiple times and the engine stopped. What is causing this problem? The only code it has is B108A, Start Button, but there is no help in the manual.

If someone kept pushing your buttons for over 12 years, by now you'd be pretty tired of it. Same thing applies to your 2007 XKR's start button. I think that B108A Start Button fault code is telling you that it's time for a new one. Or maybe it's dirty and not making good contact.

Figure 03.1 of this manual may help in fault finding. http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto...97toB20074.pdf

Removing and electrically checking the switch should also help to point you in the right direction.

I had the same issue yesterday: engine would not stop. However, I got a message on the "Message Centre" saying "car not in park", even though in park. In my case, I'm thinking a microswitch in the shifter assembly rather than the starter / stopper button, since that message displayed whenever the button was depressed - so button is doing something. In my case, shifting into and out of Park a few times got the engine shut down.
Agreed that after twelve years of shifting in / out that switches get tired. Investigation forthcoming this week; can of Contact ReNu in one hand, shop manual in the other. (2007 X150 coupé).

Those finicky stop-start buttons remind me of the US Congress. Sometimes they work, and ...

Thanks to all of you. I'll see if I can get a replacement switch locally and simply replace it. Where is Brutal when I need him?
