Error codes eml light
Had the XK a few days, had to do a rear brake light and the pedestrian sensors, all is good. Today took the car for a drive no issues, came back parked up. Took car out again about 30 mins later, got home parked up no issues. Later in the day after the car being in the sun all day, go it started driving and EML light came on. I got home plugged my OBD reader in and got error P0171 and 174 lean. I have looked over the history and i can see nothing in there for replacing the 02 sensors at any time.
I am going to order them tomorrow, hopefully have them by the end of the day and fitted, I will also take the MAF off and give that a clean with some non Mineralated Isopropyl.
Will throw up some pics as I go.
The errors cleared fine and when driving there were no issues or loss of power etc, no hiccups, nothing.
When I had my merc the same thing happened, a couple of days in I had to checnge the 02 sensors as they had never been done.
Looking forward to being part o the forum.
Many thanks UB

I forgot to ask, how many 02 sensors are there? I see mention of upstream and pre cat sensors, so am i correct in that there are a pair of sensors per bank? will it just be the upstream 02? there are no other errors on the reader at all just the p0171 and 174 that appeared today. Trying to find part numbers etc.
Thanks all advice appreciated

Before you spend money on this, please note that MANY apparent faults (which include warning lights and codes) are triggered by a battery below full voltage. The very first line of action is to make sure that the battery is fully charged, and if it is more than 4-5 years old, consider replacing it with a new battery (fully charged before installation).

would this include the p0171 and 174 banks lean codes?
yes I have read that, its just wierd that it has happened within two days of getting the car, the only issues showing on the car when i got it and on the code reader was the drivers rear brake light and the front right pedestrian sensor, nothing in the reader etc about those codes.
is there a diagram that shows the vacuum pipes? i can check them all over.
I have no issues doing any work on the car, on the merc i took all the top endapart and rebuilt it, new turbos, piping gaskets bolts seals etc, etc. So looking forward to working on this.
With the merc I had the EPC and WIS software so i could find part codes quickly and do the work.
Thanks again
Yes, battery voltage and battery health are both critical on these cars, so that's a first must check. As for air leaks, frequent failure point's the intake/throttle body rubber coupler.

thanks for the advice.
I am going to clean the maf first also get one on order tomorrow and replace it when it comes in, be interesting to see if when cleaned if that cures things.
I have looked through the paperwork and I am going to change all of the 02 sensors anyway, I cannot see anywhere that any have ever been changed out, I did in the merc and did a lot of preventative maintainence.
The coolant is low also which I will resolve tomorrow, there is a pipe from the overflow thats got a join in it on the side of the engine and thats been leaking so I will replace that also. As soon as I have a full layout for the vacuum pipes I will order the lot from jag and replace them anyway.
I also noticed on the headlights the top plastic clip that has a square end that goes into a hole are broken so i will look at repairing them as well.
Few other things to do with the bodywork as well however, lets get these things sorted first!!

Unless sorely neglected, I’ve never seen a dirty MAF sensor. The air filter will tell you a lot about the cleanliness of the intake. And unless it’s done 100K+ miles, O2 sensors are likely ok too unless someone’s done something to foul them. If it were me I’d still smoke test before replacing anything then at least you’ve an idea if that’s the issue rather than just blindly replacing parts and still having the same problem.
You didn’t mention how many miles it’s done or what sort of history it’s had.

I just checked the cabin filter by the bulkhead and changed that, in the boot om the area were lots of dry leaves!! many hadfuls later they are all gone. I also have a new air intake filter to go in this weekend.
All for 02 sensors are on order and I am getting it in for oil and coolant change and an inspection of the underneath and all the control arms etc.
Tyres are like new, all are 20" staggered Pirelli P-Zero tyres
The headlights need polishing badly so I will probably do them this weekend.
Going to start a new project thread for as I go along with pics.
Some really great advice already, many thanks to all.

Everything gets cleaned up, that way leaks are harder to see and find.
Old piping will be replaced as its a sensible thing to do along with any plastic couplings.
When it goes into jaguar service center to be serviced I will also have the old thermostat changed at the same time, if the battery needs it that can be changed also.
Passenger door is getting re-painted in august as its the soonest it can go in and then of to the detailers for a full polish and ceramic coating and ppf on the nose.
Calling into the service center tomorrow to see if i can get the smoke test done as soon as possible, just went to pick kids up and the eml came on again, P0171 and 174 lean again, more than likely a vacuum leak with the noise earlier. but also check a few other things and see what they say.
plan now set in motion.
1. Smoke test, all vacuum pipes replaced
2. Coolant flush and thermostat changed
3. Oil flush and filter change
4. Brake fluid change
5. Transmission fluid and sump-filter change
6. Spark plugs changed ( while out a boroscope in to check the cylinders )
7. All 02 sensor changed out
8. Passenger door repainted due to stone chip damage
9. nose and rear bumber repainted due to stone chips then PPF film covered.
10. Full detail and ceramic coating.
