exhaust upgrade
More stupid newbie questions....
got my xkr....which is soooo quiet, too quiet. anyone try any small exhaust upgrades without an entire catback system. Something like just changing the mufflers to Borla? Im looking for a deep growl...not a whiney Italian sound (referring to cars, not friends).

Don't have a clue what motor you have. But if it's not a V8 you won't get that throaty growl. If its a V8 and a whiney Italian sound. The whine comes from how the exhaust combines from the cylinder heads and the firing order. I would look for a larger size OEM truck muffler (if one fits) but even that might not fix it. That whine is usually good flow. What happens is one cylinder's exhaust goes past where they combine and creates a vacuum between the next cylinder's exh port and the point where they combine. When that cylinder exhausts that exhaust is sucked into the vacuum and creates the high pitched sound. My best suggestion, not economical, get or have built, headers that don't combine less than 18" from the heads and combine 4 pipes into 1 at the same point.

I had the same issue when I first got my xkr. Before I upgraded, I had the X box in the middle of the chassis replace by a simple X tube, and completely removed one of the 2 mufflers at the rear of the car. Sounded cool and was only $100.
I have upgrades since, but that made me happy for a few months!
