Extended Warranty
Does anyone have experience with extended warrantys? I bought a used2007 XK convert and my first trip to the dealer the rep said to make sure I bought one before my factory warranty ran out
The only one I priced was $4500 for 6 yrs / 150000 miles (as I recall)

Thanks Dave,
I didn't buy the car from a Jaguar dealer so that option is not available
I wonder if the Ford Total car option was good because Ford owned Jaguar at the time
when I go to FORD site, it only lists Ford , Lincoln & Mercury

Give the Ford dealer a call. The dealership I dealt with was a combined Ford/Jaguar shop and it was offered to me. Was told it was backed by Ford, I was told and is of my opinion that it was better than independant warranty companies.

Independents can be risky. Be sure to research any very carefully!

I had select edition on my car when I bought it and it worked very well. I have been out of warranty for like 2 years now so im not quite sure how their coverage/delivery on promises has changed or remained the same.
Ford might sell a warranty for it. I know chrysler writes contracts for lots of other products and doesnt make it public. On my jeep i had a gold service plan and it was great, ive seen them offering it for lots of other brands that are non-chyrsler.
Skid said be careful about independents and I agree, dealers sometimes offer them and in that case they are probably decent. I got one with our 03 Duramax from the dealer through an independent. It wasnt as great as factory bumper to bumper but was helpful none the less.
bottom line do your research carefully, make sure if u buy 6 years youre going to keep it that long.

If you purchase the jaguar extended warranty before your factory warranty is out you are MUCH better off. The jaguar extended warranty is almost as good as the "select edition". and you CAN'T get it after your factory warranty is up.
I had this same dilemma with my 2003 XKR. I was stupid and waited til the factory warranty was up and ended up with a third party extended warranty. It was "ok" but def not the same. Every time I took it in for service it cost me a few thousand and that was with the warranty paying some. It got so bad that I finally decided to trade in for a 2008.
Don't get me wrong I love the 2008 but would have been happy to keep my 2003, ( I had customized the interior with touch screen and Bluetooth and GPS and DVD and satellite Etc.) At that same time I then bought the factory extended warranty for my Range Rover. (At that time both Jag and Land Rover were ford companies under the "luxury division" with very similar policies) The factory extended warranty was almost the same as the factory warranty. I never paid much for any service, and was also offered a loaner car each service.
To add my two cents...for whatever its worth....Get the factory warranty extended before your warranty is up!!

I negotiated the price of an additional 4 yr/48K mile warranty into the purchase price of my MY07 XK, even though its original warranty doesn't expire until late December. You should be able to buy the extended warranty from Jaguar so long as they know about the car (you registered it with them) and you have at least 30 days left on the original warranty.
There are certain makes of cars I wouldn't buy without an extended warranty, and Jaguar certainly is one of them!
Good luck!
