I kind of thought so too, but if its really going to start around 70k, that puts it in kind of a different category than all those (other than the 911, obviously). Its kind of in a weird spot... doesn't seem like many similar cars in that price range.

Edit: yeah that front end is pretty cool.

It should top out at 70K if they want a massive success.

It comes in orange! <GRINS>

Also, they've got rid of the puck shifter. I like the puck shifter... but would trade it all in on a genuine row-your-own gearbox. I like my ZF tranny... but man I miss the manual. Unless I'm in gridlock traffic... O.o

Wow, looking at the photos on Jaguar's website, it is absolutely stunning.

Especially that rear end, which I didn't really understand at first. It really sort of harkens back to the XJ13 prototype and the E-type.

Well, I know what car I want next!

Default Front Grille and bumper

Is that a rubber bumper that I see splitting the front grille?

I complained about the lack of the rotary shifter in the F-Type yesterday to Ian. This is what he had to say back...

What forum is that, feel free to PM.

I like the buttons for climate control. NAV screen can be dangerous setting everything. Simple rotary button is all that's needed. Heck, I don't even care what the temperature is. Hot or cold feeling relative to me is all that matters. Less is more on a sports car.

That was Jalopnik.com -- not a Jag focused site, just a car nut site.

The F-Type has Switchable Active Sport Exhaust as an option. With a push of a button on the center console, bypass valves activate the exhaust system and produce a louder, richer, more exhilarating sound. Optional on all models.

Good riddance to the puck selector. I hated it when I test drove an XF and I am unlikely to buy a 2009-on XK for the same reason. It's just wrong, like a toothbrush without a handle.

I agree.but the f type set up is the best imho. You get both the paddles or manual shift action. And the upshift is towards the back on the stick, my wife's audi upshifts forward which feels wrong, anyone whose driven manual has the instinctive motion to upshift back eg into second which is the first and most used motion

I like the puck dial, but I think they are anticipating a manual trans down the line and it may've been most cost efficient with the J-gate handle. They haven't beeen showing many pictures of the base models, just the "S".

I wonder if anyone who actually owns one dislikes it. I thought it both weird and cool when first experienced, bought it, and absolutely love it on the street and race track. I'd like the F-Type with either.

I think the grill opening looks horrible! I think Ian gooffed.........I am a little bias though; had 3 E Types, XK8 and now XK, all look unique and look so much better than a Ford Focus.
Heard one good thing; they got ride of the silly gear knob thingy. V6 is just fine, still I only own and drive Coupes. My wife's XK8 is a conv. I can't drive it with top down too much truck noise and it does sometimes rain in Seattle!!
Coupe will be better (I think) except for Grill!

Cheers, Adrian

So far the orange is my color of choice. I've been playing around with the black and white, the camel and black and the black with orange accents interiors. As to the gearshift, I think it's a step forward with the action (pulling back for upshifts and push forward for downshifts). One thing I did notice is the top speeds quoted for the different models. 161 for the base model, 171 for the 380 hp V6 and 186 for the V8. All are higher than the current XKs with the exception of the Speed Pack and the XKR-S.

It’s started already. Every fan-boy car site is talking and mostly dissing the F-type. Most of the comments are saying it’s not as nice as handling as a Boxster and does not have a manual trans with 3 pedal. When responded with Ferrari and Lambo don’t have a manual; it’s either “those aren’t sports cars, or hydro actuated clutches make them a manual even though they do not have a 3rd pedal…

No winning with these self-described experts. Have any driven an XK or XKR? No… “I am not sold on Jaguar’s reliability”. Ok, where have you been the last decade?

Just ranting… My hunch (feel free to throw this back at me years from now) is that the F-type will be widely held as a go to chassis for track cars once the price comes down. The reviews are going to say this is an amazing car…

Honestly, I'm not sure if Jaguars have ever been about the handling. Even in the glory days of Jaguar, Le Mans winning racecars had much more an emphasis on straight line speed and braking. Handling was secondary. I think that sort of carries through to Jaguars of today.

I don't expect this car to handle the best. But if it sounds as good as it looks, and can meet or beat the numbers set by the XKR at a significantly lower cost, I think they've got a real winner on their hands.

I sure hope and expect the F-Type to pull track times equal or better to the competition. If not, this was all a big waste and setback to the marque. Don't call it a sports car and only offer run of the mill track numbers. It does not have win any particular metric, but it darn better be capable of winning the whole show. F-type is critical to the marque's long term success.
