Default F-type R coupe makes the X150 look so ordinary

As an owner of a X150 R model, i am so envious of the new F-type R coupe. I never cared much for the convertible but this is another level. Don't get me wrong i love my xkr and although it is a 07 i still love everything about it. But this new F-type R must be the best looking coupe available on the market, for me it leaves the xkr-s and the like in the shade. Can't see why anyone would even consider if still available a new xk or s model when this is now for sale.

I love the X150, but it is looking dated these days. It is still a timeless design but it's not fresh anymore!

I would never buy an F-Type with a hood ornament on it. Or is that technically a bumper ornament? Yuck.

Not sure I agree with you, although obviously I'm naturally biased as I chose an XKR, but could have had an F-Type.

Of the 2 pics you've posted I think MaximA's XKR is much better looking (Not a fan of the Arden F-Type, a standard one looks nicer IMO).

I think the XKR is a nicer looking car, especially in facelift guise with the black and speed packs (performance seats help too); brings the car up to date. Don't get me wrong the F-Type is beautiful, but I think the XKR is just a bit more imposing. F-Type has a better interior though.

But we all have different tastes, and you couldn't knock anybody for choosing either as their favourite.

I'm in total agreement in what you say Frizzle on what you say about taste, it's all in the eyes of the beholder. I gave MaximA's car as a example as it is one of the best looking xkr's I've seen, it looks menacing. The F-type R has nicer lines for me and the rear of the R coupe, yum, yum. My xkr still turns heads everywhere i go and that gives me great satisfaction, how many cars can travel along the road and get attention like the xk, not many.

Yeah, even though I think that eventually I'll end up with an f-type, I dont like the back end very much at all, which is something that I love about the XK, and to me overall it looks a little short. But then I'm not much of a fan of the vantage either, which looks a bit short and fat to me against other astons. And while I like the look of the f-type, it isnt for everyone. My business partner (who is very sparing in his praise of anything that he doesnt own) thinks that the f-type looks like a 370z and hates the back end, his view was that to go to it would be a significant step backward from the XKR.

But then he is a porsche driver, so I dont know whether his opinions counts.

You're comparing 2 very different cars. The F-type is 2 seat sports car with very little room. The XKR is a 4 seat GT touring car with some extra room. Albeit, the XKR is a sports focused GT--IMO the best GT sport focused car on the market for the price.

I was wondering the same thing and was going to pm him to see why he hasn't posted. He really took the XKR to a different level.

There are many things I like about both the F type and the XKR coupes, and don't necessarily favor one's looks over the other. Interestingly, if Maserati ever actually produces the Alfieri, it seems to offer the blend of both. It appears to be about the size of the the XKR with some styling cues from both the F-type and the XKR.

Lots of choices in the near future.

Maybe the xkr will come back with a new form in the future, not just as a souped up version but as it is a nice GT tourer, as long as it puts a smile on my face like my present one, the F-type is small a bit too small, maybe a bit boxter type. As you say DGL the xk is a real GT car and i like that.

The backseats in the Xk series can be a big deal for some people. I like the looks of the Xkr-s a little better as well, but the f type coupe R is a great car!

I test drove every version of the F-type vert, trying hard to like it. Then, I waited for the R Coupe, hoping that it would create some emotional pull in me. My wife and I went down to the dealer to see the Coupe and I asked about her impressions. She shook her head and so did I. The F-type just does not call my name. They had an XKR right next to the F-Coupe, we looked at it, sat in it and ended up purchasing the XKR.

Good thing we have a variety of tastes when it comes to cars, women, etc.... imagine if everyone was after the same shape and form... :-)

I looked at both the F type and XKR as well, and tried hard to fall in love with the F, but the XKR stole my heart. Plus, my liking is for a car I can tour in, and carry some luggage etc., on a road trip, and the XKR can do that. I wouldn't mind having the ZF 8 speed transmission, though...

Looking at the review I noticed something I had not picked up on before. Looking at the F I like the rear view but when I look at the side it appears the rear is to short. Take a look at the length from the back edge of the door to the tail end of the car. To me it just looks to short or out of proportion. Somehow I don't see that with the convert as I guess the roof line kind of hides it. Now if I look at the XK coupe the lines flow better in my opinion. As I mentioned when I sat in the F coupe it made me feel I was in a shoe box which I was not comfortable. I was OK in the F convert but then again seemed small for me. The extra jump seat in the XK seems to give me a little more breathing room. Just my opinion.

The F-Type and the XK series are two entirely different approaches. The F-Type is very sporty and for me not fit for a road trip. The XK maintains much of the sportiness of the F-Type and is truly a GT that we have taken on several road trips; all in great comfort with some sporty capabilities thrown in. Additionally the XK series has about 3 to 4x the storage space of the F-Type particularly when you include the back seats. I thin the F-Type is a great toy and the XK is a very well executed all around GT.

Hi Albert,

I had have the same situation 2014.

I donīt like the Jaguar F-type and the new Corvette C7- after 11 years Corvette C5 and C6 I felt in love with the design of the XKR - the traditional Gran Tourismo.

Personal ratings on pure classic looks ;
xk/xkr coupe 9.5
F-type 9.0
rating of 10 would have to go to aston martin
