Flash drive works intermittently
One of my complaints since purchase with my XK for the last 2 years is that my flash drive with my collected songs only works sporadically whenever it decides to. As most Jaguar owners are aware, the entertainment center leaves much to be desired. I leave the flash drive inserted. Sometimes it works and many times it reads "dock device" All the CDs work fine as well as the radio. My iphone music libaray does not work either as the car does not recognize my device. I'm ok with that as I only want my music collection to connect properly. Anyone else have this issue or a fix? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have had various issues with the Jags and USBs over the years, thougth I am pretty happy with the setup (sound quality aside). Relevantly I have had the screen crash and restart which I found was because of corrupt songs on the USB - was fixed when I deleted them; the "dock device" at startup - that was a USB problem from memory or it might have been the files on it, I cant recall; and then one which I still get where the USB is paused when I startup - only with the songs on one USB.
My arsey opinion - and I mean opinion borne of experience, I might be wrong - is that because there are many different kinds of MP3s, some work well and others dont. As an example, some files would work in my car but wouldnt in my wife's newer volvo (at the time), especially the ones ripped out of youtube videos from memory - it is something to do with what the units can read, and sampling rates. There was quite a furor on the volvo forum about it when I checked it out.
Anyway what I usually do first is to try a new USB with maybe 20 songs on it tops, and see if it is OK, then try to isolate which files are causing the problem. If I can be bothered. But because I get the files from a lot of different sources, it can be a bit tedious.

I have a 128GB drive with about 9000 songs. It works every time, however there are a couple hundred songs in .mp3 format that aren't listed within the folder they are located. I did get new/different versions of some of the unincluded songs and those ones did show up afterwards. Maybe your drive has a minor error on it. Try putting it in a desktop/laptop and running scandisk and defragmenting it. Or, since they are cheap, put all your content on a new drive and see what happens.

I Feel Your Pain!
I don't know how to permanently fix it, but here's what I do. Whenever the flashdrive doesn't start playing automatically when I start the engine, I use the 'Source' thumb-wheel on the steering wheel to cycle through the various audio options (AM, FM, CD, etc.). When it gets to 'Auxiliary', the flashdrive starts playing! Hope this helps.

Flash Drive Solution
I had same problem, reformat your USB storage device to FAT32 & reload your songs. You will have no problems after you do this. I did this about a year ago & have not had this issue pop up again. Google how to reformat your drive to FAT32, there are several free downloads online, the process is very simple.

PS. When I hit the folders button under USB the only thing that shows up is itunes backup which I must have installed today. Then I see all the songs that are on the flashdrive. I'm not very tech savvy but I never had anything in my folders before today. Not sure if that matters with this issue.

Try Some drives do not like the "brown out" of the ignition off power stays on for a while. I only had issues in the XK, never in the XF and never in the F Type. Bought this drive and never had an issue in the XK either. Not saying that is your issue but not starting after starting the car was exactly the symptom I had.

It's possible that your drive is formatted with the FAT32 but the reason you are having this problem is that the car's system is not reading your playlist (for whatever reason). I used to pull the flash drive out 4-5 times & reinsert it while the car was running until the menu came up on my screen. I can only tell you that after I
reformatted the flash drive with the FAT32 software I have had zero problems for the past year. If I remember right I was using a Scandisc flash drive. I would give it a shot, there's no harm & it shouldnt take more then 15-20 minutes. If that doesn't work try a different mfg. of flash drives till one works for you. Hope this helps.
